2014 MDX on 22's
#4
I like a little more sidewall... So I'm looking at 20's. But it looks good...thx for posting...I like seeing pics with wheels. I personally think wheels make a huge difference in the styling...just one reason the Audis look so good...they do a great job with wheel/tire size/style and filling the wheel well.

Interesting look, and very large. I'm assuming the ride and handling has changed considerably as well, in a stiffer sense. Which tires were used?
No go on different brakes, unless you want to completely redesign and come up with a custom braking system. It is already as large as they go, and there is no point in a drilled rotor system in the MDX.

That MDX is screaming for a drop.
The big wheels and the thin tire sidewalls make the wheel gaps look even uglier.

Yeah it does need a lowering kit bad which is why in one of my other posts I asked if anyone knew of a lowering kit of 1-2" for the MDX. I knew there was gonna be some major wheel gap. It seems like the German auto makers like BMW, Audi, and MB understand that when designing a car. They make the wheels sit and tuck perfect.
Tires are Toyo Proxes 285/35/22...I personally would love to have 285/40 or 45/22's but they wont fit...this combo is almost the exact same size as factory. The bolt pattern is 5 X 114.3 and I believe the offset was +35. The wheels are Dub Rio 6 22 X 9.5.
As far as handling and ride it is a bit of a stiffer ride but not nearly as bad as I was expecting. It is still smoother and quieter than MY07 Escalade. You can feel the added weight in the wheels when driving and turning but not too dramatic. The stopping power of the MDX is a bit weak with the stock set up IMHO and I have yet to really test it with the added weight of the new wheels.
What I meant by no rub has nothing to do with the height of the wheels and the gap. The new wheels are considerably wider and put the edge of the tire right in line with the widest parts of the fenders instead of tucked in like the stock wheels. When turning at full lock going both forwards and reverse there is no rub. It is Very, Very close to hitting the inner fender wells but about 1/16th to spare.
I like the look of the rims but hate the fender gap. I am going to have them mount up a set of 20's and see if that looks better. I am also going to be on the hunt for a lowering kit because either way the MDX needs a little drop IMHO.
To each their own and I agree the look isn't for everyone, but I wanted to post up some pics so that other who might be considering a change have at least something to go off of. I am part of a few different vehicle forums and the people on this site, or should i say this MDX portion, really seem to be more geared toward stock equipment and factory accessories. Not that this is a bad thing, just thought I would throw a little aftermarket into the mix.

any front views of the sides by any chance? want to see how flush the wheels are with the fender and can probably guestimate how low an offset we can go buy with your current setup.... thanks

^^^ *sigh* What I'd give to look outside and not see the white $hit we have in Canada....and now under a massive freezing rain storm.

Judging by the front/rear pics, you may run into fender rubbing issue (especially the rear wheels) after you have lowering the MDX.

Thank you. Tires are Yokohama Prada Spec X. I'm anal about wheel balancing & tire vibration. Pat Goss's garage has a high end wheel balancer that wheel matches, road force balances, fine tune balances and removes $220 from your pockets. Running smooth at all speeds! No vibration.

Looks good Nixonride03 It's an SUV, it should be fairly high off the ground, especially if you're lugging around a big family. I would not touch the suspension at all!

Nice job guys on the 22s. Except for the last-gen Advanced wheel, I've never been a fan of the wheels Acura has fitted any of the MDX gens with. IMO you have to go aftermarket.
