The government has determined that people cannot drive, you cannot educate them and the law is too busy to enforce existing laws. There are some people who do not want new roads and the authorities cannot afford to build them so to get the throughput on the highways it has been concluded that cars will have to drive themselves.
To enable cars to do this ala Google cars you need numerous screens, LKAS, ACC, 360 cameras, auto lane change indication etc.
Now that you all know where we are heading you had better get used to what the geeks are going to give us. Driving is a thing of the past.

The MDX is about the same price as the RL and I assume they will have similar technolgy. The spy shots already show the double touch screens in the new MDX.
Does that mean will get a better idea of the technologies (and engine specifications) in the MDX when the RL comes out? I am hoping for a quieter MDX.

Wow I think you need to take a break from your slippery slope ride and remember this little check and balance we live with called litigation. Without major reconfiguration of our roads and highways, no car company is going to take full care and control of a vehicle out of a human's hands and into a CPU out on public highway, the liability is outrageously prohibitive. Imagine if someone is killed when the system crashes...lends new meaning to the proverbial blue screen of death. Driving will (and has) evolve over time and technology will undoubtedly influence how we interact with other vehicles in crowded metropolitan areas, but there will still be traditional controls in place and the driver will be expected to operate the vehicle as we do now. As far as the current safety technology is concerned, is anyone disputing the conclusion that there are people that can't drive and don't care to become more adept? Maybe YOU don't need these aids, but the knucklehead behind you or coming the other way does and your life might be saved as a result of the technology in his car.

Fixed:

the liability is outrageously prohibitive. Imagine if someone is killed when the Microsoft-developed system reboots itself after downloading an update

Sales advisor said he didn't have any other details and we would have to wait a week.

I'll simply and respectfully disagree with your premise. Your discussion belongs in one of the off topic communities to speculate about the 53rd generation MDX. In this thread we're looking forward to what the steering wheel and controls, among other things, will look like in the upcoming human operated 3rd gen MDX.

They were definitely going for an 'evolutionary' design on the MDX rather than a 'revolutionary' design (change a few dimensions and you've got the current MDX). This may also be the most production ready 'concept' I've ever see out of Acura. Replace the front lower LED's with fogs and the rear lower LED's with reflectors (and maybe a different set of wheels) and that's probably the production unit.

I do like it though... Certainly will be on the list of potential replacements for our 2010. REALLY interested to hear specs, pricing, MPG estimates, hybrid option, etc.

5 questions.......

1) did they put an actual workable GPS in it ?
2) did they put an actual workable backup camera that works at night ?
3) did they keep SH-AWD (I think I see the badge on the tailgate) ?
4) will they offer different engines / drivetrains ?.
5) will the roof rack / rails be standard as it should be on a vehicle in this price range ?

other than that, I see a tweaked MDX, with LED mods that could have been done by anyone on this forum.

Very nice!!!

I'm digging it... this will definitely be a future potential ride for us. Too bad they lost the exhaust tips. But glad SH-AWD is still part of the package!

Looks good regardless.

I'm glad to see they got rid of the unpainted plastic bumpers front and back. I'm fine with the hidden exhaust and larger over hangs to hide undercarriage. I've never been a big fan of driving behind a clean SUV and being able to see the dirty underside suspension (It is like unintentionally seeing up a woman's skirt and seeing skid marks ). I imagine the LED jewel eyed headlights are for the Advance models. It looks more like a MMC to the 10-13 MDX line.

Can't wait to hear the specs on the interior/exterior size, drive train, tech, MPGs, 0-60 mph, and luxury!

Personally, I'm glad they didn't change much. The current model sells very well and gets very positive reviews. Looks like they changed a little bit all for the better. Should get better MPGs and that was one of the biggest complaints from the current model.

My render wasn't too far off!

Looks conservative, but I like it...conservative is expected considering the continued success of the MDX...

the 2nd row and 3rd will have more leg room...if you watch the acura webcast starting at 14:45 (i think) when they unveil the MDX...they talk about all the stuff related to the MDX. prior to that they show the NSX concept "evolved" and the production RLX. they did not get into the interior design details, but talked about the features that would be included.

Since I have the Advance, I hope one of the things they add to the ENT package is blu-ray player. I was shocked to notice that the 2013 Toyota Seqouia had it already.

I'm anxious for more interior pics (especially past the front row). Style wise, it looks good so far.

I'm also hopeful about the next TL(X). I'll keep my 3g, of course, as the daily.

This would look even hotter with some nice exposed chrome exhaust tips. I'm sure someone will retrofit something on there in due time.

Now since SH-AWD is an option I just hope this doesnt mirror the life of the RDX and lose it completly next go around.

What really puzzles me is that the motor went down to a 3.5L and the car seems to have gotten bigger.

While I don't care for a bigger MDX, I am just glad they did not make it look worse. Let's hope the production model brings some exciting colors as well to keep things interesting.

I have to agree about the backup camera. That thing is awful and needs to be replaced with the one in the TL. Even the Nav screen in the current TL is much better than the MDX. I really like my MDX but it has a few short falls I hope they address with this one. I am not blown away with the design. Looks like the old one with new head lamps. I also hope the do some updating on the interior because it's starting to get dated. Look forward to seeing it in person.

Did you not see the interior spy pics? It's similar to the RLX and looks pretty updated.

The direct injected 3.5 is as powerful as the old natural breathing 3.7.

The new MDX is actually lighter, stiffer, and lower. So handing should be improved.
Maybe they will put a 7 speed transmission?

I'm still hoping for sport hybrid all wheel drive. They are probably keeping that secret till after the RLX is selling.

Looks great! The rear end looks similar to the ML350/550 which isn't a bad thing
