2014-2015 tech and advance model choices
now that i am looking at 2014-2105 mdx. I was always the guy that gets the simplest model for pricing and still get the essence of the driving experience. With the mdx, i just started looking into the blind spot monitoring which i think is useful. How are people wth tech and advance packages like their driving nannies and adaptive cruise controls. Is it worth spending the few extra thousand dollars getting it or stick to the basics?
My limited experience made me weary of the LDW and the random brake warning from the tech model. Can they be dialed in? People just turn them off or what? Let me know how you utilize your model mdx.

We have a ‘15 tech. We generally leave the LDW turned off because it was alerting when we were using the full width of lanes to avoid other wandering drivers which is common around DC. However I have found LDW useful when towing wide trailers on the highway because when it alerts that the MDX is close to the line your trailer is likely already over the line.

Yup, it's great when towing.
Other times I leave it off in local driving. I would not like the Advance with the vehicle actually braking when it "Thinks" there is an obstacle ahead of me. Too many false alarms. The blind spot warning is a great reminder when in heavy traffic with idiots swapping lanes all over the place. I would spend the extra money again for those Tech features.
I am also glad that I got the SH-AWD, because it allowed me to move up from a 3300 pound trailer to a 4600 pound unit. FWD is limited to 3500#, but SH-AWD goes to 5000# with a trans cooler kit. We just finished a 7200 mile towing trip from Florida to the Rocky Mt. states and back with zero problems.
Extra gas cans because we were getting 10 - 11 MPG against 40 MPH headwinds.

WOW!! Great pictures and amazing to see an MDX towing such a big mobile home!! Its defintely an eye opener. While i dont have a trailer at the moment, it definitely makes me think if i were to get one in the future, id need the LDW...
did you install the trans cooler yourself? Ive installed one on my supra since its an auto and the aftermarket coolant radiator didnt have built in trans cooler. I am now also peaked in installing one after to keep the trans fluid cool and add a temp gauge!
Keep thr comments coming! Thx for the pics and comments so far

The 2015 MDX Adv model was the only year that came with the full Acurawatch and HD widescreen rear entertainment (I love the heated rear seats and cooled fronts) standard. The 2015 Adv might be the best "bang for the buck" if you are looking to future proof yourself if your needs change. I would look at the sh-awd versions because they will drive and handle like a smaller SUV, can do up to 5000 lbs of towing, and you get a spare donut tire standard. You also have the option to turn off some/all of the Acurawatch features when they are annoying or not needed. I like Acurawatch if you travel a lot and/or have multiple drivers with limited experience behind the wheel like high school kids.

In terms of features i know i want are sh-awd and Blind spot monitoring
I saw a tech with entertainment trim and it had the LDW and rear heated seats. What in advanced would be desirable as i see tech with entertainment is max what i would need if i care about my son's rear bum in a few years haha.

"The all-new Advance Package gives the rear DVD player a 16.2-inch screen that can show videos from two sources and adds Milano leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigating braking with a head-up display and lane keeping assist to take this luxury SUV to the next level."
This is from Cars.com. how do people with tech like the adaptive cruise, collision mitigation braking, lane keep assist, and the HUD? those are the extras that i have not played with and be interested to hear owner's experience with them.

I am not hearing much feedback on advance model gadgets specifically and will probably stick to tech model for now. interestingly, there is a 2014 tech model locally but instead of 9" screen on top, it has 2 screens built into the back of the front head rests!! I have not had time to check it out yet, but wondering if that is even an oem model or more of an aftermarket. just surprising to think an aftermarket parts be part of a CPO car.

Bought my first acura! Turns out the lcd screens are aftermarket from acura dealership. My wife and i enjoyed the drive and its very smooth. Think we got a good deal too with this CPO!

Finishing out this thread wirh my review of the options. Tech model's lane departure warning is a good reminder to stop the BMW driver habit of not signaling on turns. It also has the added benefit of audio warning on cars in the blind spot when changing lanes. The collision warning is also very helpful when car in front has emergency braking while you get distracted by the slightly convoluted stereo controls. Guess its an Acura created problem in which they have a solution for HA! For the price and mileage of my CPO, i got everything i wanted. If i could add to the features, i would also include parking sensors and rear seat shades, but they are not deal breakers. I just wonder how tehy could have front collision warning sensor but not able to use the same tech as front parking sensor???
