2013 MDX vs 2014 --which would you choose ?

Which would you choose if you could make the decision over again ?
I have a family member in the market for a new MDX. I just bought a 2011 myself and love love love it. I know the 2013's are the same and should be available at a steep discount. Beyond that, for those of you that "upgraded" to the 2014, do you feel it IS an upgrade ? or just newer ? I personally prefer the looks of the previous gen but thats just my personal preference.

I was trying to decide between +10 MDX Adv, +14 RDX tech, or +14 MDX tech as my choices. I eliminated the +14 MDX tech because of being a brand new model and Acura always has TSB/improvements by the 2nd-3rd year before it is rock solid. I eliminated the +14 RDX because I already had an 08 RDX tech and I wouldn't get anything extra and I would miss the sporty handling. Since I was keeping the 08 RDX, I didn't see the advantage of have two mid size SUVs. The same price of a new 14 RDX, I was able to get a 11 MDX Adv/Ent with 26,000 miles. I pretty much got everything I wanted plus a few extra as I would from the 14 MDX tech with $15,000 in my pocket.

I will wait until the MMC on the current MDX to see if I will upgrade the 11 MDX or 08 RDX.

The '13 offers a sportier ride. The '14 has a softer and more refined (NVH) ride. It's really personal preference if money is not an issue.

Hmm--so the 14 MDX is even cushier than the 13 MDX ? OK. I know for me, we were coming from an 07 RDX and the 2011 MDX feels like a cushy ride in comparison to the 07 RDX. Riding in that 2014 MDX must be like floating on a big pillow

Yes it is. That's why I said "personal preference", not necessarily an upgrade.

To me, a SUV's purpose is to carry around family members (or people in general) so comfort and refinement must come first. Yours might be different.

Sportier ride does not mean the 13 handles better than the 14...

Exactly correct. The 14 has a more comfortable ride and handles better too, plus its much quieter. I had a sport model mdx because a hated how torpid the non sport models were. The 14 handles as well if not better while harshness is par with that models comfort setting. IMO besides a more flexible interior and better FE its what sets apart the 14 from the old one. In fact the new one is better than the old one in all performance terms. The only downside is the more complex audio controls. On the subjective side I also like the exterior design a little more since I had the original shield grill which I never liked.

We decided on a '13 MDX tech. It was used, but in excellent condition and very low miles. I couldn't justify the extra $12,000 it would take to get a '14. Also, the navigation system hasn't been ruined by the lawyers unlike the '14. My wife is very happy with it.

Worst still is a stiffer (sportier) ride quality but less handling performance.

According to Acura, the 2014 MDX laps the Nürburgring track 8 seconds faster than the old one (2013 MDX).

The weight reduction helps that for sure.

2014. In my opinion if you look at side by side photo, especially exterior, 2014 looks more refined. I also like the fact you get better MPG and quietness in the cabin.

If it matters to you, with the two back rows of seats folded, the '13 is not flat. It is basically one surface, but angled towards the back of the car. On long road trips, my dog would slide to the back. We went for the '14. Free dog my a$$.

Having the 2014 first before getting a 2013 loaner, I like the 2014 more.

good replies guys. Depending on where you ask this question, you get completely different answers. I would hope the 2014 has improvements over the 2013. Sounds like it does. That will be my vehicle when I get done with my 2011

FYI guys. I got a 2014 as a loaner. I have to say this is a really nice driving vehicle. It feels faster and more nimble than my 2011. Very car like. The leather also feels a little nicer. I disagree with the ride being cushier than the 2011. I think the 2014 MDX has a comfortable yet firm ride, the 2011 feels a little cushier to me. I still like the 2011 seats and dash and exterior a little more, but I would definitely consider trading in for a 3G in 4-5 years when I can get one certified in the 30k range.
