I purchased two spare key fobs, driver 1 and driver 2, and asked my dealer to program them today. I brought 4 key fobs to the dealer, the two originals and the two spares. When I picked up the MDX they said they couldn't program the spares because the MDX will only recognize one fob at a time for each driver. I can't have two driver 1 fobs. They said if I lose my my driver 1 fob, then they can then program my spare fob to replace it. The dealer also said if they programmed my spare fobs today, that the MDX would no longer recognize the original fobs. Has anyone been able to have a spare fob programmed and not mess up the original fob?

We added the optional remote start on our 2015. We now have four fobs, the original two and the two with remote start buttons. The driver 1/2 features still work on all fobs.

NVAKeith, thanks for the info. I am going to contact a local locksmith. I spoke to them before I went to dealer. They said they can program the fobs. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

If the locksmith can do it I would definitely talk to Acura about making you go out of your way to find someone else for something that was possible. Sometimes I don't understand why people don't want the business.

I highly doubt if any locksmith can program an electronic key fob for these newer cars. They all have to be done through a dealer and probably registered in the factory database I presume.
