14-16 Snow tire Setup, 2G TSX 17s fit?

Looking for a snow tire/wheel setup for the wife’s 3G MDX w/tech 19s. I’m not at all happy with performance of the stock 19s in the snow after our first winter of ownership.

It seems like the 5x114.3 OE Acura wheels in 18” form are A) expensive B) hard to come by in my neck of the woods (metro Detroit).

After some research I found out the 2G TSX is the same bolt pattern, and almost equivalent offset. Has anyone tried the 2G TSX 17” 5 spoke on their 14-16? Will a 17” clear the rotors? These seem to be far more available than any OE 18” Acura with the correct setup.

I’ve got the summer set sitting in the garage from our S.E. TSX, but haven’t tried to fit it myself yet because it’s Detroit, and it’s fricken cold out.

I just put a set of 17" rims and Hankook ipike tires on my 2015 Tech. Not sure of the brand rim, just a cheap discounttiredirect alloy rim. Fits perfect and crazy traction compared to my all seasons

as long as the TLs wheels widths, hub bores, bolt pattern and offsets are similar you should be able to bolt up the wheels. next step would be to verify the factory rolling diameter and see if you can find tires that tall in a 17" diameter and if they are worth switching out too.

looks like your 3g mdx with 19"s comes with 245/55R19, which has a rolling diameter of 29.6". so in 17"s you will want to match with in a quarter inch or so. 245/65/17 and 265/60/17 are both 29.5". those would be my choices.

I went with 245x65x17.
Speedo is spot on with GPS.

I'm using RDX dealer takeoffs. Bought the wheels for around $400 on eBay. Running 245/60-18 HANKOOK I PIKE RW11 Winter/Snow tires and a new set of Acura TPMS sensors.

Following up on this for others. The TSX 17's cleared front and rear rotors perfectly. These came off our '12 TSX SE, 5x144.3mm, 55mm offset, 17", 7.5" width. The combo looks terrible on the MDX as it's the tire setup from the TSX, not for the MDX. The total diameter of the TSX whee; + tire is the same as the MDX's 19" rim alone.

I found a set of '13-15 Accord 17's for <$400 for I'm pouncing on them for the winter setup.

All weather tires

I have a 2014 MDX with about 35k miles. The tires were down to about 5/32 of tread, still OK for summer driving but I was worried about taking them through another Minnesota winter. Besides the OEM tires were never that great in snow, OK but not great. I just had a set of Nokian WR G3 SUV ,245/55R19, installed and so far am very pleased with them. They are called an All weather tire instead of All season tire. They have the severe service rating meaning they are much better in snow than normal all season tires. We have had two small, 3" or less, snows since I put them on and so far they handle great on snowy roads. I went out for a test drive before the plows removed the snow or put down any salt, No slipping or sliding when quickly pulling out at a stop sign nor when going up a fairly steep hill from a standstill. One of the snows had some ice underneath and that didn't even bother it. On dry pavement they don't seem any noisier than the OEM tires, They probably aren't quite as good in the summer as Michelin's but they are much better in the snow. They are also quite a bit cheaper than a comparable Michelin. I paid $187 per tire at Discount Tire.
I've only had these tires a couple weeks but so far am very pleased with my choice. I'll have to see how they do through the summer months. I'll leave on a roadtrip to the southwest in a few weeks and will have a chance to evaluate them on long dirves on dry pavement. I'll post my results when I get back.

Final follow up, went with the 13-15 10 spoke Accord 17's due to their matching offset. Stumbled on some ridiculous deals on everything. Ended up at $800 when all said and done for the complete setup including TPMS and mounting.

Took it it out for a couple drives this weekend, we've received about 10" in 2 days. This thing is a tank now, 100% improvement over the stock 19s with 30k on them. I feel a lot better with the wife driving the kids around in inclement weather (her car).

Looks great! The difference with snow tires is huge.. The traction with my ipikes in the snow/slush is awesome. Plus it extends the life of my more expensive 19" all seasons.

Rim changes

I got a separate set of 2015 MDX rims with tpms and snow tires for our 2015, they are night and day better than all seasons. Bought them from a guy that totalled his 2015 and bought a 2017. But... we have decided to end our lease and buy a 2018. The bolt pattern is different. Wheels won't fit.
My wife immediately asked if we could keep our snow tires, she loved them so much.
So... I guess I am removing the tires from the rims, and there will be a set of five 2014-16 MDX rims (full size spare too) with tpms available for purchase soon here in the next few weeks.

they make adapters. Your offset will increase a bit, but who cares for a winter setup? Heck of a lot cheaper than a new set of rims.

I've seen that, thank you for the suggestion. However, I'm very concerned about getting the wheels to fit completely round so there's no vibration, and the extra offset may slightly stress the suspension and hubs, I'd like to keep it as stock as possible to limit extra wear and tear and questions (wife's car). Plus, I got the winter set for a steal (nearly new, paid 40% of retail), so I'm still ahead at the moment.

Vibration is no concern at all, so long as the tires are balanced. The additional offset adds minimal stress/wear. I'm on year 4 of spacers on our TSX winter setup, haven't neeeded to align the car in 70k miles, no signs of wear at all on the tires.

Though I totally understand the point of it being the wife's car. Our MDX is the same, plus the kids taxi. Which is the entire reason I went with snow tires to begin with, I hated the way it performed in snow the the 19's, and wanted the peace of mind that they're safe.

I feel a ton better now with my wife driving the new setup in snowy conditions. I'm in the auto industry and have been internationally certified to drive test vehicles through in some crazy scenarios. I did not feeel comfortable relying on the MDX to be predictable with the 19's on snow or ice.
