Should I wait for a 2015 Acura MDX?

Should I wait for a 2015 Acura MDX?
After test driving a few vehicles, my husband and I have decided on an Acura MDX AWD advance. I'm a little concerned about buying a 1st year model and some of the bugs I'm reading about on this website, but would of course love to just get it now too. I'm not very familiar with Acura so please excuse me if my questions are stupid. Does anyone know when they might come out with the 2015's? Also, if they fix some of these bugs for the new 2015 model, will they also fix the 2014 under their warranty? Are you guys happy with the 2014 or do you wish you would have waited for the 2015? Thanks!

Hi Adsacura!
I have the 2014 Advance model and love it! The only thing I run into problems with is the voice recognition. It's just not that good. If I keep trying, eventually it does work. I just find it easier to navigate through the controls manually. Once you learn them , they are pretty simple to use. The 2014 handles great, the gas mileage is wonderful, the electronics are still pretty amazing. The sound system is the better than or equal to my home Yamaha system. All in all, I am glad I purchased now. I feel if there any bugs to be found, they will get fixed under warranty anyway. Plus, there will not be any changes to the 2015 from the 2014, so why wait? You can get bugs with any model year car- my opinion, pull the trigger now!

Depending on what kind of bugs they are.
Most will not be fixed until the 2016 model year, when the mid-model-cycle-refresh (MMC) comes out.

Adsacura....Its a tricky situation. I am like you, love to get the newest and greatest however, I am a little concerned by the technology with the recent release from Acura. Acura is renowned for their excellent engines and average reliability but technology in today's vehicles is not simple.
The problems we are reading are not trivial and although not everyone are affected by them, the problem with these guys of problems is that they are hard to troubleshoot/solve. Many have blame Audi and such for electrical gremlins but it now appears that in their attempt to make cars very high tech, Acura is now discovering the pitfall in doing so.
I would try and wait a little and keep reading if these problems get rectified. I was excited to get a TLX but now I am starting to think twice about doing so. I will likely wait until next spring and depending on how trouble free it will be (or not)...I will then decide if I get the TLX or something else (like Audi for example)

Adsacura,
**DISCLAIMER** I just purchased an MDX so I am still in the "Love Affair" stage so my opinions may be biased.
I like you was very hesitant to purchase a first year model car. I decided that any issue could be fixed under warranty and most of the issues people are experiencing relate to the entertainment system or poor fitting panels. I truly think the engineering behind the drivetrain is sound as Acura has always excelled at that. So I figure the major components in the car should have very few bugs (needless to say I could be wrong). On the other hand, like Weather states above, the issues people are having are very difficult to diagnose. I so far have only had a delay in the rearview camera turning off but other than that everything has run perfect. My one suggestion if you decide to purchase is throughly look over the car before purchasing. Examine where all the panels meet. Look down each side to ensure all the curves in the doors line up. The fit on these cars should be close to perfect but a couple on the lot had fit issues (I only examined a couple out of close to 30 on the lot but I would still examine to be safe).
Personally I would go for it. So far I haven't regretted my decision to purchase it and you risk bugs in any model year car you buy.
Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be worth it. The Advance MDX is a pretty sweet car.

8000 miles zero issues. Best Honda Ive owned. Zero defects. Our previous MDX required one repair at 50k replacement of the magnetic shocks, otherwise it was gas and go. This one looks like its going to be as reliable, note I have the advanced package, thus every doodads possible. In regards to voice recognition, I yet have to find any system, whether automotive or not that is worth a damn, they all suck. One of the things computers have yet to crack.

MMC refresh is most likely in 2017 (the 4th production year of the vehicle) short of a major emergency fix (ala civic).
2015's will likely not change much and will not be available until early fall.
Any little annoyances found within the car should be covered under warranty aside from typical wear and tear items. Every car has it's issues. My MDX was in the 3rd year of production (09)....and there have been a number of annoyances with the car that have prompted me to visit the dealer to have them fixed (all covered under warranty). thank goodness for CPO!! However none of the issues were mechanically related to the operation of the vehicle (drivability). These are issues would not chase me off to another make of vehicle in the future.

What I wish (but they won't) bring for 2015:
-Surround view camera system as an option
-Heads up display as in the RLX Hybrid
-Lane watch camera. Why not? It's actually useful for me in the Accord, and if you don't like it you can always disable it.
I'm guessing it won't come until 2016 models at least. But only Acura and their crew really know.

But then, by the time the MMC version comes out with the hypothetically 9-speed auto box, there may be rumors that the new-from-the-ground-up 4G MDX will have the twin-turbo V6 and the hybrid SH-SH-AWD drivetrain.

I feel the need...
Are you guys happy with the 2014 or do you wish you would have waited for the 2015? Thanks!
I on the other hand, have some pet peeves with the HVAC and dual screen set-up. That and the ELS system in my 6MT sounds twice as good as the Tech/Ent system in the Mdizzle.

The new 2015 MDX will be released in September, so I think that you should wait for it. It is just few months more, and it will come with some changes

i would certainly wait for the '15. the discount difference you might've lost by not going with '14 could be easily made up from the depreciation gain on the '15 model vs '14

When I went to a dealer on 12th April I was told Acura is accepting orders for 2015 model, but pricing information is not available. Since then I have had no word about the 2015 model. My understanding was there will be software upgrade to allow Android and iOs phones to be compatible with the sms bluetooth feature. Currently only obsolete blackberry's are compatible with the Acura SMS bluetooth. I am waiting for the 2015, just to see if they have made changes to their bluetooth feature.
It is good to know no new 2014 orders are being taken. Hopefully the 2015 MDX should show up soon.

Also in the future when someone goes to buy a used MDX they may stay away from the 2014 knowing it was the year if they had several problems and look for a 2015 and higher which could devalue the 2014 even more down the road...

What do you mean by saying they said no to "order". Most people pick a color and model like Advance AWD, and the dealer will provide a quote and if they do not have the color they will procure from other dealers. Most Acura agencies have stock of 2014 models. Can you explain what the dealer meant by saying no to order a 2014?

Yes. If I wanted a certain color combination with certain options that was not available thru near by dealers then you could order from the manufacture.

However, you can still pick from the existing 2014 MDX's that are sitting in dealership lots across the country. Once located, the dealer can bring that MDX in for you, by trading in one of the 2014 MDX's from the dealer's own inventory.

I went to Acura website today (June 6) and 2015 MDX is posted instead of 2014 MDX. So I guess the 2015 is here. From the website it is difficult to see any changes. By the way, I have 8,000 miles on my 2014 (front wheel and tech) with no issues.
