My New 2015 MDX
I just took delivery of my 2015 MDX. Now I wonder if I should of done more research. The car is too Honda like, looks like a Toyota Venza, and not sure the quality is there. This is sad given, I went from a 2013 Grand Cherokee and wonder if I made a mistake. I look at the finish of the product and the ceiling already has bubbles! I think I should of bit the bullet and gotten a GL350 BluTec or a X5 Diesel. Maybe I can convince my wife to take the car and I will drive her Audi Allroad!

I had it delivered to my house. The service was great and the dealer was very accommodating. I used to own a 2006 Acura RL, it was my first Acura and I actually enjoyed it. Only thing leading me selling it was the SH AWD humming that occurred around 75k miles. One of the biggest issues with the Jeep I had was the build quality. Talk about sloppy and I didn't expect this from an Acura. The gaps are inconsistent, the body doesn't line up, the bumper even had a clip that was popped out! Very disappointed that Acura has gone to this!

No Myth. Just very disappointed. I really am trying to like the car. Even trying to justify adding roof rails, sport bumper lips, bumper guard, and steps to make the car look better. My brother and I bought the cars together and I don't want to be too negative about it given how much his wife likes it. Hopefully I can get my wife to like it too, so I can have her take mine. I do like the fact it is a very safe car though. With a 5 months old baby, I do feel save knowing she is in a save car.

Acura has implemented ZERO change in the 2015 model year MDX.

I am happy I saved a few thousand bucks by buying in June rather than waiting a month more. My car loses usage value by miles not year, so a model year has less affect than the miles on the odometer.

I always have an issue buying a first year vehicle. Also after reading quality control issues, possibly due to moving facilities, I wanted to wait a year for them to work out the kinks. I don't think it made a difference though. Well all in all I got the 15 for the price of a 14, so that is a positive if I decide to sell it sooner then later. At least my resale value would be higher.
#19
Apparently they haven't addressed their QA problems either! I too am glad we got the 2014 since now I'm seeing it hasn't improved in features or quality and I got the best deal possible locally on 2014 which I don't think would have been possible on 2015.

It is to do with the OP (post #1) saying that the 2015 MDX is too Honda-like and has questionable qualities, and that the OP only test drove the 2014 MDX but not the 2015 model.
The OP makes it sound like as if the the 2014 and the 2015 MDX's are two vastly different SUV's.

Agree.
Especially with all those negative things that are downright apparent during test driving the demo vehicle.

Update
So I've had the car for a few weeks and things haven't been much better. The headliner started to bubble and now it's at the dealership getting a new headliner put on.
My bumper wasn't clipped in all the way when I received it, took it to dealer to pop it back in and now I am told that I will be getting a new bumper!
My brother bought a 14 MDX the same day I did and his car has been in the shop also. He has suspension issues and touch screen issues. There has to be some quality control issues, the new MDX facility is missing. I thought my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee had quality control issues but, man this isn't much better.

I'm extremely suspicious of your claims.

Wouldn't you be complaining too, if you just spent all this money and you have all these issues. Only reason I bought the car was because my positive experience with a RL I used to own back in 2006. I would talk about how much I really liked the car to my wife, so she suggested why not look into another Acura.
What is so suspicious about it? This is what has been going on and I am disappointed. If it make any difference, I will say the service I have been receiving from the dealer has been exceptional. They have been nothing but awesome!

Buyers remorse.........
It's great to hear you are happy with their service Have you addressed any of your concerns with them?

Yes I have addressed every problem and they are taking care of all of them for me. They apologized for the troubles and are doing everything to make it right. Their service has been one of the best I've experience. I guess you can't have it all. I love my 14 Audi Allroad, the craftsmanship on that car is immaculate, however the dealer is a nightmare! If we can combine the two, it would be the best!
Basically, I want to like the car and enjoy it. My plan is to keep this car for the long haul. I think if the quality control was better I would of been fine. It's just surprising to see, such sloppy work from Acura.

I have seen a tendency on this board to discount any criticism of a new Acura by a new forum member. Why is it so hard to face the truth that Acura quality has deteriorated to the point that defects at delivery are a reality. For us, I still think, I made a big mistake not to have a second Lexus and assumed Honda quality is true for Acura too. Big mistake. Still waiting for the non working DVD to be replaced after one failed attempt and a few hours at the Acura dealership. Like NVsage, I can only hope that in the long term, I do not face any more problems. I made a flawed assumption about Acura quality based on our experience with our previous CRV, Odyssey and Acura.

My personal experience, my 06 Tl had inconsistent panel alignment and gaps, built in a US factory.
My 06 RL, built in a Japanese factory is perfect.
I always wondered what the difference was, is it the machinery or the workers?

Just took delievery of my 15 MDX last Saturday, it also has alignment/gap issue between the front bumper and front right side fender, will take it in tomorrow and see what the dealer does, hope it's a quick fix.

- People generally come to car forums to seek help or information. Thus complaints will be out of proportion to compliments and praise.
- There is a significant amount of trolling. We've had numerous individuals come on here to bash Acuras, praise other brands and have some very suspicious activity levels. Multiple accounts, IP addresses hidden by proxies etc.
Do problems exist? Yes. No brand is perfect and I truly wish people find the solutions to them and for Acura to hopefully see what is going on. But at the same time, take such incidents with a grain of salt.

Couldn't of said it better! My initial quality of Acura was based on the 2006 RL I owned. That car being made in Japan, was very impressive. Unfortunately, I only kept it for 2 years before moving onto a new car. But I always spoke about how great the RL was. After a few other cars, I decided I wanted a SUV again and bought a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I didn't expect much from the car and after a year I wanted something that I though would be higher quality. Well as of now, I can say the Acura's quality is about what the Jeep was. I am glad I have a dealer who is willing to work on the car and hope that I can gain trust in the brand. Otherwise I guess it's time swallow the losses and move on.

People take pride in their work over seas and I think here, they take pride in making it to Friday and going to happy hour. Maybe I got a Friday car?

The crazy thing is, the car I put the most miles on was my 1991 Ford Explorer which ended up having 300k miles on it before I gave it to a friend, who then put another 100k miles on it. He drove it until the wheel actually broke off!
Then my second longest car I owned was a 96 BMW, which I used to AutoX 2x a Month and used as a daily driver. I ended up putting 200k miles on it before I sold it to a kid who bought it and drove it back to NY from FL. When I checked a few years ago, I hear it was still running! Now the longest I ever own a car is 2 years and hope that the Acura will allow me to go back to my old ways.

Even the most reliable Japanese automaker will turn out a few lemons once in a while.
The most important part is that the dealership is cooperating with the remedy actions.

Summer is Coming
Acura did not fare well in this year's JD Powers Initial Quality survey. When I posted this over in the RLX section I got the expected 'these surveys don't mean anything' type of response. But like it or not they are a comparison between brands and the population size is statistically meaningful.
https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...6&postcount=58
The take away for me is that Acura dropped significantly in 2014. I don't know the detailed reason why, but it should not be a surprise to anyone when someone has a problem with their Acura. In this case is seems like the dealer is fixing it. Can't say the same for those with those defective dampers.
It would take several years of below average quality to damage Acura's reputation, but a trend starts one year at a time. Acura needs to realize that they generally have two major things going for them, Quality and Value. If they lose Quality it will significantly hurt their brand image. One bad year isn't a trend but Acura needs to jump on this and make sure buyers have a better experience in 2015. The TLX will probably be a large part of the 2015 results.

I think the initial quality is where Acura will take a hit. These are defects found at delivery or immediately after delivery. For over 10 years I have been feeding data to true delta about my car fuel consumption and also maintenance history. My last Honda CRV had 0 breakdowns for 7 years and 180k miles. This Acura has already visited the dealer in the first month and another visit next week. I have not had such a worse new car. Our second car (RX350) had 0 initial quality problems and none ongoing either. The postings on this board show that the MDX model does have lots of minor quality problems. I do hope that structurally and mechanically the systems such as transmission etc., are of good quality comparable to a Honda. JD Power surveys are very comprehensive and they catch quality deterioration very quickly. Luxury brands lose more from bad quality than non luxury brands and take many years to come back up. Toyota is a good example. Lexus recovered fast. Honda has been very consistent in its high quality and reliability. It may be time to have the Honda Quality leadership to help the Acura brand in getting quality back up, otherwise the Honda brand will be damaged too.
