^ Hybrid RLX aside, your dealership might be interested in giving you an extended test drive if they know your circumstances
That aside, I'm guessing you either have alternate transportation or you have a rental through your insurance co. Since this happened.
Has the ins co cut you a check yet or are they still investigating?
A sh-awd sport hybrid RLX loaner might be the way to go until you decide on a replacement.
Not gonna happen.
With very limited production quantities and therefore limited allocation to each Acura dealerships, consider yourself lucky if the Hybrid AWD RLX is available for test drive, let alone be a loaner vehicle.
Nope, I'm still alive and kicking. Not much to report (although a lot of running around to complete paperwork for the insurance company, declare plates lost, etc.) I hope to have some news in the next few days and will update here once I do.
I recently returned home from work, parked the car and a few minutes later noticed that it was on fire. Thought I would share this experience and see if anyone else has had any "spontaneous combustion" issues...
Truly sorry to see that , lets hope its an isolated incident. I occasionally take a gander at NHTSA and have never seen another one catch fire yet. Just look at the bright side. You get a new, new one

Wish that the insurance company will replace you with another new SUV.

That is probably what will happen, I will get the details on Monday (I missed their call on Friday).
I am down to deciding whether to add some cash to upgrade from the Tech to the Elite (Canada) similar I think to going from Tech/Ent to Advance/Ent. They even have a black one in stock although I prefer white...

The anxiety level you are experiencing must be unbearable. The very nature of an insurance contract is to give you peace of mind in the event that something horrendous like this happens.I don't know about other provinces or states but here in Quebec there is insurance that guarantees the total loss of the vehicle with a new vehicle for a period of 4 years. AT NO EXTRA COST>>
(Wawanesa Insurance- F.A.Q 43).
Do enter this incident with NHTSA or whichever agency appropriate for Canada, even though cause is unknown. If another fire happens, then at least it can be researched through this database. If you do find a cause, you can always add another entry with the cause. Place it under complaints. Currently I read 35 documented complaints on the NHTSA site. No fires in there thus far.

I agree, this is a good idea..
I give the OP credit for wanting another MDX, if that happened to me I don't know if I would be able to buy another one. At least not until the cause was found.

I wouldn't have a problem buying another MDX. I'm sure it was some sort of crazy freak accident.

It probably was just a freak thing... And I really can understand the OP wanting another.
I guess for me, the reason I feel this way is because the MDX would be my wife's primary vehicle. So I would want to know what caused the fire before getting another MDX..
If it were my daily driver maybe I would feel different.
So what came of the original? Any news on the cause or. If acura got involved?
Did you ever contact acura? Did the insurance company give an explanation or findings?
The original is at a salvage yard I believe.
No news on the cause. The front end was so badly burned that they may never find a cause. If a cause is found I am not sure who they would report to but I am probably near the bottom of that list.
Nobody from Acura has contacted me about the fire other than the local dealership where I bought the last (three now) MDXs.

Just out of curiosity, will you now park your MDX inside or outside your garage ?
Absolutely, it's in the garage right now. Winter is coming (and not just to Game of Thrones).

Very unlikely. The flames started between the windshield and the hood. (Also, I would not park on top of a pile of leaves.)

Only thing near the windshield that could have done this is the master cylinder for the brakes, if some brake fluid leaked onto the hot catalyst it could have started a fire.
There was an issue with the 3G TL that would allow Power Steering fluid to drip onto the catalyst but that was fixed with a new washer/pipe set. I'm not sure if the MDX uses power steering fluid with electric steering.
Did you upgrade with the same model or did you upgrade (I see roof rails/fogs)? Notice any improvements with the newer model compared to the original?
I upgraded from a Tech package to an Elite package, which in Canada includes:
•Acura DVD Ultrawide Rear Entertainment System with 16.2-inch display and HDMI® (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) input jack
•Acura/ELS Surround® 546-watt Premium Audio System with AM/FM/SiriusXM™* tuner, MP3/Windows Media® Audio compatibility, DTS®, Dolby® Pro Logic™ II and 12 speakers including subwoofer
•Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow*
•Collision Mitigation Braking System™* (CMBS®)
•Front and rear parking sensors
•Genuine olive ash trim
•Lane Keeping Assist System* (LKAS)
•Passenger's seat with 10-way power adjustment including 2-way power lumbar support
•Remote engine starter
•Roof rails
•Surround view camera system
•Ventilated front seats
The only other addition is the fog lights. I wanted another white MDX but one that looked a little different (i.e. rims, fogs, roof rails).
I was told that the 2015 MDX is identical to the 2014 model. Obviously there are some "goodies" that I didn't have before.
The one that woke me up was the CMBS. I was getting close to another car and it flashed where it normally does on the instrument panel but there was also a bright orange flash projected onto the windshield which I didn't know about. It did its job but with the orange colour the first thing I thought was "fire"...
On my Tech model I don't think I had the on/off feature for the auto seat-belt tensioners that tighten the seat-belt during "sportier driving".
I was hoping that the "Client Satisfaction Improvement Campaign: Update for 2015 MDX" (mentioned in other threads) would be done but my dealer did not have the kits yet. That looks like it will be a nice upgrade.
The last unexpected bonus is that Acura has a very new "Canadian Military Personnel Rebate Program" for serving or former Canadian Forces members. Approved applicants receive a rebate of $1,000 directly from Acura Canada. (I assume there is a similar program in the USA.)
There are a lot of leaves on the ground, cars have been known to catch on fire when parked over a pile of leaves. That would be my main guess.
Then why haven't the rest of the cars in the neighborhood caught fire? Keep in mind that the MDX is higher off the ground than most cars. This makes it far more suspicious than just leaves.
A high suspicion that the OP may have required to sign a "keep my mouth shut" agreement in order to exchange for a new replacement vehicle from Acura, which is a standard practice in the auto business.
Interesting. But I would think that could be a slippery slope for the auto manufacturer when negotiating with the customer. Customer could just as easily say, you are going to replace my car or else, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and every other social media out is going to hear about this. I would think the customer would have the upper hand, plus this is part of the reason most of us carry comprehensive coverage as part of out insurance. Who knows (other than the OP), you may be right. I'm still interested to hear / find out.
