Keep 2016 MDX Elite or upgrade to 2019 MDX Elite 6 passenger?
Hey friends!
So, I'm enjoying my 2016 Elite. It has only 58k kms on it. My wife and I have three kids and a large dog. Sometimes when we pick the kids up from school, we the kids will all sit in the second row for the quick drive. One kid is in a car seat. It's nice rarely to have the option to have the dog take the whole rear with the third row seats down. However, on longer trips, we will have two kids in the rear, one in the third row with one third row seat folded down for the dog.
From what I'm seeing, the 2019 Elite has some nice features including Android Auto, better programmed transmission, way nicer exterior looks.
I'm having a hard time deciding if I will like the 6 passenger or not. Is it not as good a seller? Will it result in worse resale value? For normal days, I think the kids would like the space of the 6 passenger with one in the rear, however the 7 seat is nice sometime. It's a pretty awesome deal for the 6 passenger, but maybe I'm trying to justify a good price for the 6 passenger when I should just hold out for a 7 passenger down the road?
Or, should I even upgrade? Outside of cosmetics and Android Auto/Apple Car Play, there are not really that many changes?
I would really appreciate any input as I seem to be going back and forth.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers

We got the 7 passenger MDX SH Tech just for the rear bench seats to fits 3. I, like you, wanted the flexibility to carry 7 passengers. Rare but it happens once or twice a year when we have visitors. Lots of 6 passengers Advanced here, but very few MDX Tech Sport Hybrid. Good luck searching, you'll find it.

Is it worth spending I don't know 15K-20K for the same car with slightly different looks, a few extra bells and whistles, and 1 less seat? Maybe wait a year or 2 for 2022 mdx, that will be worth the upgrade

New 2022 MDX looks more expensive to me. I wouldn't be surprised if base price jump $5K+ and top-end Advanced model starts at $70K+. All that interior leather and massaging seats will definitely increase the price. We will have to wait several years to see how reliable that new V6 Turbo engine proof to be. Personally I would take a 2017-2021 MDX Sport Hybrid Tech over any newer V6T non-SH. No new Sport Hybrid was announce for MY21+. Who knows, we may never see a Sport Hybrid again.

Your 2016 is barely broken in. I say keep it unless keeping up with the other people is more important. If you buy a 2019 or higher they won't have the same features as the 2021. Always the case. I'd rather look at the features accumulating in my wallet and bank account.
