Genesis GV80 Thoughts/Major Competition ?
Cant wait to see the new MDX now. The competition will be fierce. I really like the interior of the GV80 ( looks very luxurious, one place I felt Lexus had over the current gen mdx) and exterior in certain colors. The rear is a little bit of meh for me with the quad headlights/strips but isnt necessarily bad. Their infotainment is really good. Hyundai has been killing it with that these days while I feel Toyota and Honda need to step it up. Heard good things about their lane keep assist and driver assistance tech from many car reviewers as well. Somewhat concerned about dealership presence and repair. For me it will be between the next gen MDX, RX350 and this. Would you consider this vehicle?

I have no doubt the GV80 will mop the floor with the 4th Gen MDX with tech and luxury looks/touches. I think Acura will still have the advantage in sportier driving dynamics and powertrain refinement. I think the folks that may not have sportier driving dynamics high on the must have list are the ones trying to decide between Acura, Lexus, Caddy, Infinity, or the GV80. I think the same folks would also include the top SUVs with Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Ford, and GM in their search also (bang for the buck search). I would be leaning towards 4th Gen Acura Sport Hybrid, RS/S-line Audi, AMG M-B, M-line BMW, or Porsche Macon/Panamera as my top list for SUV with sportier driving dynamics.

That sporty feeling is what I really loved about my 06 TSX (A-spec+Progress RSB) and 08 RDX (Hondata+ETS intercooler+Eibach lowering Springs+Progress RSB). Those cars felt like an extension of me and my senses. I heard and felt what those cars were doing with eyes, ears, hands, feet, and backside because of the suspension and hydraulic systems. I knew when my alignment was off, tires needed re-balanced, conditions of the road surfaces, and when the tires felt like they would break away in a tight turn. My 11 MDX and more with my 19 MDX can feel like I'm along for the ride like a passenger (like playing a video game). It can feel a little more isolated and insulated from feeling the real world with drive by wire, touch screen, and push button everything.
I'm good for a while with my 18 RLX hybrid and 19 MDX hybrid for now because of the added sportiness of the powertrain and handling that is top 3 on my list (they are just lacking in luxury and tech that is near the bottom of same list). Cars are turning into smartphone that can do everything but the drive part; which, is the primary function.

This should sell like hot cake. As for MDX, the Telluride and Palisade currently give you more bang for your buck vs the MDX, the only thing in favor of MDX is the brand value and probably more elegant looks.
The other day I sat in a 19 RDX and asked the showroom lady if it was the base model as the panels were thin, the seats were firm and overall surfaces didnt have the same soft touch feel as my 2G MDX and was shocked to hear it was the Elite (Yeah that's a thing in Canada). So if the 2020 MDX is on similar lines expect the things to look great but not feel great.

The Hybrid sales numbers are very low for all of the competition so they might do that after the first few years.

This just stole Acura's lunch before they could even launch the new MDX... The only advantage might be SH-AWD but now Genesis are more reliable than Acura so even that is gone for them.

6G TLX-S

The new upcoming MDX in any new form will be better than this new Genesis.

I've been waiting to see this for a few years now, and I'm not disappointed. It definitely would have been on my short list of SUV candidates if it wasn't for the fact that I just bought my MDX a year ago. I agree, the steering wheel design is a bit odd, but other than that, I think it's the nicest looking SUV since, well, the telluride and pallisade. Hyundai is pumping out some pretty well designed cars lately that look much better/more exciting than the vast majority of competitors.

Good looking interior and improvement.
Typically, from driving rental car, the Korean car chassis dynamic, steering feel and transmission is at 2-3 generation behind Acura.
This may be improved but doubt it can have the driving dynamic like Acura or BMW yet.

Please test drive a Kia Stinger, it mops floor with TLX or even a 335i

There are several chassis generation for the BMW 335i, starting from the E9x (2006-11), F3x (2012-18), G2x (2019- ), there are incremental chassis and suspension dynamic improvement.
Just from looking at the grassroot people who does HPDE (High Performance Driving Education) events, Saw a lot of BMW , Porsche, Miata, S2000, C5+ vettes, ,,,
Kia Stinger may be specail....most Koreans cars are not at the durability and performance level under g-force.

Try any gen 335i including the latest one The Kia Stinger is really really good.

I can't argue for or against the driving experience, but from reviews I've read for the Genesis sedans, it sounds like they're do a pretty respectable job in the handling department. I really want to get my hands on a g70 manual transmission test drive, but I'm afraid of what will happen if I like it too much!
As far as the gv80 goes, I guess we'll have to wait and see with the US model (actually being announced tonight!). I'm sure BMW will still stay ahead in the driving experience department, but in terms of bang for your buck and overall package, the gv80 has the potential to be a rockstar.
....sorry, for never even owning one, I've turned into a Genesis fan boy of sorts!

looks like Genesis is pricing the gv80 to compete with the MDX and RX.

I have no doubt the MDX will handle better, but is that enough? The intersection of people who want a 3 row crossover and who care about handling isn’t all that large...

Acura needs to up their interior quality. Injection molded plastic isn’t going to cut it anymore, so they need to diversify their interior colors and materials. I have always wonder why Acura didn’t mix the nsx blue leather interior with a white contrast and bring that interior color to the MDX or RLX.
#34
True, the material quality is pretty average in Acura compared with even Lexus forget the Germans. I found the interior quality please sad on the RDX, the panels are thin, the leather has no padding, eveything reeks of cost cutting compared to older Acuras.

Yen used to be 120 to 130 per 1 usd. Now it's at 100 to 110. They have to squeeze 15% in cost somehow. I notice the same thing in other Japanese manufacturers. The model years from 2001 to 2008 were the really the epitome of automotive manufacturing.

This will be on a new RWD platform so it should be even more impressive than the Stinger and G70.

Yeah some people missed the memo where Genesis/Hyundai/Kia hired the former Lead Engineer from the BMW M division and subsequently hired several other BMW engineers to give their cars a German feel.
This will be on a new RWD platform so it should be even more impressive than the Stinger and G70.

Burning Brakes
^^^Does the size of the modern day tranny have anything to do with the size? You also have all of the controls that automakers are moving to the center console. Those require space for the knobs/buttons/switches, and the additional wiring.
