FWD vs SH-AWD 2014 MDX

Hey guys,

I started out with a discussion in the 4G TL forum as i was trying to differentiate between performance as it pertains to SH-AWD vs. FWD.

See this thread for reference: https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-2009-2014-123/fwd-vs-sh-awd-890535/

My question is, purely from a performance/handling perspective how much better does the SH-AWD perform than the FWD? Has there been any tests to scientifically measure the gains, losses, lap times, etc...? I know this may be unfair comparison as the SH-AWD TL has more power then the FWD TL. Where as the MDX specs are the same across both variants.

What was determined is that the SH-AWD system in the TL may not be the engineered the same as the SH-AWD system in the MDX. Can anyone shed some light on the differences?

That is not an easily quantifiable measurement! The best way to come to that answer is to evaluate your own assessment of a FWD vs SH-AWD. To some, the SH-AWD may not be worth the extra money and to others, it will be worth every penny, but given that it will be your pennies that will be forking for the SH-AWD, you should try for yourself. While I can appreciate your question and wanting to make sure you get your money's worth out of the SH-AWD, at the end of the day, it is never advisable to rely on people's assessment on whether or not it is worth it as no two people will drive their vehicle the same way.

Sorry that its not the answer you are looking for but hope it still helps to put things in perspective.

^^this is the same type of answer that should be given when people ask if the tech pkg or the advance pkg is worth it.

it's so individual.

gotta go with what YOU want not what WE think you should get. it's all subjective.

^^^ You said it so better and in so many fewer words *lol* I wish I could better master English as a second language....

Even if the MDX and the TL are to share the exact same SH-AWD and system calibration, the AWD MDX will definitely handle differently than the AWD TL, due to the much higher center of gravity, much heavier curb weight, and much different front/rear weight distribution.
