Extended Warranty Pricing

I thought I'd ask here if there is typically flexibility in pricing and if so what people are paying. Is there a better place to purchase than your dealer?

Thanks.

Just used the search function. Looks like for the Acuracare the only way to shop it is call a few dealers. Not looking for a non-Acura insurer. If anybody has a few tricks or suggestions, I'm still all ears and appreciative.

I got mine from Gardiner Reynolds Saccucci Honda. I did shop around. The earlier you buy it, the better and longer the warranty, i got mine C72, 7yrs/120000 for $1870.00.

In my experience it's possible to get a good price at the dealer as they're highly motivated to get sales. I frame it like this:
  • I see value in the product's coverage
  • But if I buy this product, I am committing more money to pay for something that may occur.
  • In the case of an extended warranty, you are asking me to hope that my vehicle experiences $2,000+ in repairs between years 4 and 7. That's an expensive bet on my part for what should be a reliable vehicle. $2000 buys a lot of repairs.
  • If you show interest with reasoned analysis, I've found they can come down 40-50% on their initial offering.
This same approach works for other coverage, such as wheel/tire coverage. They wanted $1500 for 7 year coverage on the MDX. While one wheel and tire replacement can run $1000 I wasn't willing to assume that I'd have to replace at least 2 sets in that time. A more reasonable offer of $760 made sense.

I negotiated AcuraCare for 3 years / 100,000 miles for $1,600. Seems reasonable since I've had $8,600 in cash equivalent warranty work completed in the first 2.5 years. Currently at 45,500 miles, so either need to buy coverage soon or dump the vehicle before it needs to go back for its next "surprise" repair.

Do you mind telling us what was it that cost that much to repair. Just wondering in case it happens to the rest of us. Thank you.

The basic 4yr/50,000 mile Acura warranty should of covered any/all warranty related work in those 2.5 years? I don't think Acura care would be applied until the 4/50,000 basic, 6/70,000 powertrain, and any extended warranties expired. Paying 4-6 years for Acura Care that will be applied last and/or rolling it up in your car payments give Acura/Honda a way to make more money on you. I waited until one month before my 4/50,000 basic expired on my 11 MDX Adv before going for Acura Care up to 120,000 miles. My magnetic front struts failed once at 35K under warranty and didn't want to take a chance with all four corners down the road for the next 5 yrs.
