Driver 1 Setting issue
2017 MDX
Sometimes the D1 settings do not return after starting the car. The only thing that I have adjusting is the steering wheel telescope if it is just me driving the car between trips. In the RL and RLX, steering wheel not telescoping during start was a sure indicator of battery going bad. However, this car is brand new!
Other causes? I know it is not a timing thing like putting into gear too quickly as today I was entering address into Navi after start.

Do you have two drivers and it's staying in D2 or are you just not getting ANY memory settings? If you have two drivers and you are stuck in D2, the only thing I can think of is that you need to unlock the door (via touch or remote key press) with the D1 fob to get it to move to D1 memory settings. Same thing the other way around to get D2 settings if D1 drove last.
If you are just not getting ANY memory settings, then it seems to be an ongoing issue with MDXes since 2014 and it is usually rare and resolved by a restart.

I only have that trouble when my wife is me and whoever gets with 6 ft of the car first, that is the key (hers #1, me #2) that it recognizes. I have only had a few occasions where when I was alone that it did not recognize the key # and they seem totally random. This is a 2017 Hybrid.

The seat sets to the right position, only the steering wheel does not return to proper height and distance setting, mirrors also set ok, its only a steering column issue when it happens and it is totally random and rare on my 2017

yes - once in gear it stops.
what I notice is that when I start car, the telescope starts concurrently with the engine starting but at slower speed. When engine fully started, the telescoping goes faster. On those occasions where it does not telescope, it does not start telescoping at all.

Happened to me again today for the first time in a long time while the service manager at my dealer boarded the car. He just said it can often be caused by RF interference from our cell phones. Basically, they got no fix, don't plan to fix it.

I think I figured it out. It happened 3 out of 4 times when I unlocked the back door first, so I figured it had to be related. If I unlock back door and then open front door before the "Walk Away Lock" beep, D1 settings do not take effect. This is the first beep, not the beep when car is automatically locks. If Walk Away beep happens before I open front door, then D1 settings do take effect.
I reproduced several times, so pretty sure this is the case

Yes I agree with you on this. It happens to me too. Question is, is this normal?

walk away lock beep is for the autolock feature. Car will autolock when you get more than 6 feet away if you have it turned on. It beeps a second or so after you close the door and then beeps again when it locks after you walk away.
If you open back door first, close it and do not walk away, it can beep (the 1st beep) before you open the front door. What I have notices is that if I close the back door and open the front door before the beep, the D1 settings do not take effect.
