Changing out the wheels my hybrid to Advance 20 x 8 1/2" wheels.

I just purchased a set of take-off wheels from Acura dealer on Ebay for a set of 20 x 8 1/2" Advanced wheels to replace the stock 20 x 8" that the MDX came with. I'm assuming I not going to have any issues with the increased width on a Hybrid.

Post some pics once you get them on. Are you going to re-use the OEM Conti tires or upgrade those also.

I will definately post pics. I just think the tires look to skinny on the Hybrid although they just fine. Just an appearance hang up on my part. I will be updating the ties to the "proper size" 265/45-20. these are two I'm considering see pics below. What do you think?

I have the Conti DWS 06 on my 11 MDX, 08 RDX, and 11 TSX right now. Thinking about upgrading to Aspec or aftermarket 20X8.5 rims to do the Conti DWS 06 tires down the road on my hybrid.

I am puzzled how you bought 4 wheels without knowing if they will fit properly.
Does half inch make that much of a difference in the looks?

I’m pretty sure there gonna fit but if for some reason they don’t I could probably resell them for a decent price. But, to answer your other question the 1/2” increase in size allows a tire that is 1” wider in tread width.

Compared to the OEM tire/wheel combo these packages -

Will be 5 mm (0.2'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars.
will stick out 15 mm (0.6'') farther. Acceptable for most cars.
Also, when speedometer reads 60mph (96.6km/h) actual speed will be 59.4mph (95.6km/h): 1% slower.

Personally, i'd buy non OEM wheel when sizing up as OEM wheels are known to be heavy. Last thing you want is an increase in unsprung weight on your nice already handling MDX. So, rather than increasing the tire width, you should play with wheel offset and try to fill out the fender a little better. You should also think about the mpg penalty of using larger tires...

Just my two cents........

I think the Tech & Hybrid Wheels are 20x8 with a 55mm offset. The ASpec and Advance Wheels are 20x8.5 with a 50mm offset. I just purchased ASpec Wheels to put on my Tech but I’m going with a 275/45/20 tire vs the stock 245/50/20 stock tire. I think the extra 1.2 inches in with plus extra 5mm offset toward the fender will fill in nicely. We’ll see in a few weeks.

Have you selected which tire you will using? Please post pictures after you once the new tires and wheels are installed. The sales guy at the Tire Rack was mentioning 275/45/20 could be also be an alternate size with more tire options.

Mellonc - You make some good points. I'm willing to take the mileage hit for the sake of aesthetics and possibly even better dry handling. This is the tire/wheel set up on Advance and A-Spec packages and it does't seem to make a difference on mileage wise on the Advance SH-AWD but it looks like the A-Spec gets 1 MPG less.

I went to America’s Tire to look at the tire size in person and I really like look of the wider tires for sure. Although Acura uses the 265/45R20 the 275/45R20 is actually closer in diameter to the original tire size than 255/50R20. I’ll make final decision on size and tire model in the days to come so when my wheels arrive next Friday America’s tire should have my selected tire on hand. I’ll post pics after the new tires are mounted.

The tires on the left is the 265/45R20 and to the right in the the 275/45R20.

265/45R20

275/45R20

I have these Advance wheels on my 19 Tech but used the existing 245 tires since the tires were brand new. While it does make the appearance a “little” bit difference since it’s on a half inch wider rim I would like to see these 275s on them. Which Michelin series were you thinking of going with?

I decided I will go with the Michelin Premier LTX.

The 275's will be about an 1.18 wider which is a little of 12% wider. The diameters are really close so there is almost no increased speedometer error.
