Captain chair 2nd row comfort
It looks like I'll be frequently driving around 2+ extra adult passengers - sometimes for longer distances. I'll (almost) never use the 3rd row. Can someone speak to the comfort of the captain's chairs? Compare them to the bench seat?

I have never tried the 6 captain seats.
However I would think they are identical to bench since they look the same. You get more space next to you may feel more comfortable psychologically.

I don't know them personally but I would think that for 2 adults they would prefer Capt chairs over a bench. Real question is do you plan to ever need the 7th seat?

Ive never sat back there for long but def more comfortable. Plus i love the preforated leather and white piping. Kids love the seats and the extra storage to hide/charge ipads. Although you are losing a seat, it makes the third row "feel" a lot less cramped.

Thanks guys. That's what I figured. I doubt that there will ever be more than 4 people in the car (including me) plus a dog in the hatch

Kind-of. I'm thinking of trading the TSX wagon for an MDX. The wagon is a bit tight for 4 adults on a good day (I'm 6'3 so my seat is all the way back) and really tight with 4 adults, a German Shepherd (the back is all mine, right?) and some luggage.

I had the same question as one of my options is to lease a 2017 MDX. Easiest option for me is to opt three months early out of my RLX lease (Acura offers this routinely) and get into a MDX rather than another Sport Hybrid--lease deals on the SH are nonexistent and what's available simply isn't competitive, still.
I sat in the MDX second row captain's chair at the NAIAS over the weekend. It's pretty roomy when you don't have a bench between you and your 2nd row seatmate. Of course, I have no idea on long-distance travel.

I think the Captain's chairs are nice when you don't have to haul people. For me, I would opt for one with a bench since I can fit one more in the second row while still keeping the rear cargo capacity.

The RLX is a very sad example of a good car marketed badly and trying to compete in a category where it is out-featured by far lesser cars. The average buyer buys features and often misses substance. Further, to put such a high premium on a feature (hybrid) that most buyers don't care about is just asking for trouble. At least with the MDX we'll have a vehicle that is reliable and has an acceptable resale value down the road.
While reviewers rated the MB over the MDX, I think they are excluding reliability and cost of ownership - but it does show that Acura really doesn't have any class leading vehicles.

I'd want the front/rear sensors so I'd also need to look pre-owned to get one with the bench.

These are a plus for me too. My parents lives in apartment complex with tight parking spaces. I park in their space when I visit them. The sensors helps with parking in tight spaces especially areas the mirrors can't see. It helps with parallel parking too. Hopefully you'll find the configuration you want.
