Honestly the new grill reminds me of what Mercedes has been doing for years.

The Mercedes design though is an ode to their vintage cars, like the old SLs that had the huge emblem in the grille. It looked nice back then and looks pretty nice now, but lighting it up is a little gaudy.

It's all about more visible brand recognition and Acura's beak got them some negative recognition instead of positive. This new style jumps out a lot and is a bit oddly proportioned, but it gets the message through.
