Alloy wheels delaminating

I have a 2015 MDX with about 85k miles on it. The alloy wheels are beginning to look rather shabby because the plating is starting to delaminate
and look corroded. 8 years doesn't seem like long enough for the wheels to be doing that. I've had other cars with alloy wheels that still looked fine after 10 years. Anyone else having that same problem?

Looks like corrosion not delaminating

This happens with wheels that are run year round in the snow belt - the salt gets under the clearcoat on the wheels and causes the aluminum to start to "corrode". Some wheels won't do it if the clear coat is thick enough - but once you get a nick in the clearcoat, the corrosion spreads like your pictures. As an example, I bought a refurbished set of OEM Acura TL wheels to run as snow wheels on the wife's RLX - they were beautiful. But after the first winter they started to corrode like that - due to the clearcoat not being done adequately on the edges of the rim. You can fix them, but it involves dismounting the tires, having the wheel sanded down getting off the clearcoat and corrosion, then polishing them and clearcoating them again. NH winters are crazy tough on polished wheels like this....

It would probably cost around the same to fix them compared to purchasing aftermarket rims to replace. New OEM replacements can be pretty expensive and used OEM could have the same corrosion issue in short time. I don't have road salt issues or harsh winters in the southwest. I do have a ceramic coating on one set of rims and wax on a regular basis the other set. A good cleaning, Iron remover spray, clay bar, and a paint sealant+hydrophobic like Turtle wax hybrid Graphene or Meguiar Hybrid SiO2 ceramic wax would help. Probably only have to this before and after the winter months.

Thanks

You are right, it is probably corrosion rather than delamination. Thanks for the suggestions on fixing it.
