2017 MDX TPMS light

So I swapping my 20’s for the winter rims with tpms sensors. ( first winter with the 2017). Right away the light came on. How would you pair the different sensors to the car? Want to do it my self. Not paying the dealer a dime. What tool do I need? Any help wouldn’t be great. And why can’t the bloody car do this automatic???

If you have the right sensors in the winter wheels, it should auto-detect after driving a mile or two. Are the sensors off of another vehicle? Honda/Acura isn't good about using the same sensors across models. I know that the sensors for a 14-15 MDX are unique and different than earlier or later MDX model years. The 16-20 MDX shares the same sensor with a 16-18 ILX, 16-18 RDX, and 15-17 TLX. I have a used set with rebuild kits if anyone is interested....

My ‘15 automatically picks up the winter wheel sensors during a short drive after swapping them. I used genuine Acura sensors. No programming was needed which is awesome!

My winter set up is from a 2007 Ridgeline. Had to buy different lug nuts for the to bolt on. 👍 isn’t there a tool that resets the sensors or computer to make them work.

Depends on the sensors you used. There are different frequencies available and some aftermarket work on multiple frequencies, they just need to be programmed accordingly. The programming tool may need to be the same brand as the sensor.

The short answer is no - if the sensors aren't auto-detected by the car, a tool won't make them connect. As I said earlier, Honda/Acura seem to randomly put different sensors across their car line so that they often won't work from one to another. I ran into this when moving my '12 TL wheels/tires/sensors over to my wife's '18 RLX. Everything bolted up fine, but the sensors wouldn't connect. The only solution was to buy the sensors for an RLX and have them put on the TL wheels. Once I did that, the sensors were detected and all was well.

Bottom line - you need to get the sensors for your '17 MDX and have them put into the wheels in order to have the vehicle recognize them....

07 Ridgeline wheels meaning the sensors paired up to the Ridgeline, You'll need a set of new sensors that pair up with your MDX

There is nothing to program. If the TPMS sensor is working and is of the correct transmission frequency, a tire pressure number will automatically appears in the MID display after driven on the road for a few minutes.

Depends on the sensors. If Acura/Honda sensors then yes he’s out of luck for programming. If aftermarket then he has a chance they can be programmed to the correct frequency for his MDX. I’ve got an Autel tool and their programmable sensors in my garage, they claim to be programmable for 90% of cars

^^^^^

Does the programming has to be done before mounting the aftermarket sensor onto the rim, or can it be done remotely ?
