2017 MDX Hybrid Advance-Oil puddle due to loose oil filter

My MDX Hybrid is now 3.5 years old and have given no absolutely NO problems. That being said, I just returned for a vacation at the Delaware Shore. The 4 hour drive home was uneventful. The car was packed to the gills (like many previous vacations to the Beach). The travel was all interstate limited access highways, averaging about 65-70 MPH. After arriving home, I washed the car, and parked it in its usual spot in my garage. That was last Saturday (5 days ago) Haven't driven it since.

Tonight, while out in the garage detailing another car, I noticed a rather LARGE puddle of oil directly inside the right (passenger) side front tire. Checking the oil, the level is still within the cross-hatch area, to the lower side of the area. The car has NEVER lost a drop of oil in 3.5 years. Oil last changed in April and Oil Monitor System still said 100%, dropping to 90%, during the 4 hour drive home.

Any idea why such a large puddle of oil? I'm seriously afraid to drive the car, without first getting to the bottom of this.

Any ideas?

Many thanks, in advance.

Try to get some sample of the oil with paper towel, and post the pic here, you can easily identify the oil with its color and smell.

The oil filter is by that tire. Could be loose or has a hole in it.

My first thought as well. I do my oil change without even jacking up the car. Get down there with a oil pan and check the oil filter

What was the cause of the oil leak? Was it engine oil or transmission fluid?

Sorry for the long delay...I've been away from this Forum for a few months. Fortunately, my trusted mechanic found that the oil filter had not been tightened enough after the last oil change he did. He replaced the filter, and topped off the oil, and the car has been trouble free ever since. He's a great guy and did not charge for the fix. I could tell he was embarrassed over the incident and he stood by his error.

Still enjoying the Hybrid technology and still waiting for Acura to announce the Hybrid model for the new MDX. In reality, I'd really love Acura to step up to new technology and offer a Plug-in, Hybrid, Electric Vehicle. Hope springs eternal. :-)

Acura Dealer keeps calling me saying they want to buy my 2017 MDX Hybrid and give me a great deal on a new car. I tell them to call me back when they have a new MDX Hybrid

EXACTLY. you'd have to pry our 2019 hybrid out of my dead hands! (or if the dealer wanted to swap the MDX hybrid for a new 2022 Audi Q5 hybrid, I'd probably go for that.)
