Tire size- 245/35/19 or 245/40/19
Hey everyone,
I saw this question has been asked before (I already used the search function) but wanted to get everyones blunt honesty. I ordered new wheels/tires on Friday with 245/40/19 tires on them but am second guessing myself now. I do plan on dropping the car with Eibachs. Simply put- if the car doesn't rub with 40 series tires and Eibachs (a few people mentioned it won't) what are the downfalls of choosing the 40's over the 35's? Thanks in advance!!

The honest reply is that if you understand tires and rims logic you would know that your question is wrongly asked
The "rub" factor is mostly determined by your rim's offset and width.
Personaly I am going 235/40/19 which is imo the perfect size. Any rational reason why you are doing 245? If I had to have 245, I would do /35 tire wall, because /40 is more than 2% from stock which is considered safe. But in reality I think you will be OK even with this size, I know that someone is running this (on 8" 55 ET rim)
Hope it helps

Your reply does help, thanks. And you're right I didn't give all of the info needed to properly answer my question as I was rushing out the door when I posted it. The wheels are 19 x 8.5 +35 which others on here stated won't rub with Eibach pro's (guess I'll find out if that's true). Also, I understand the slight speedo difference and "pothole protection" that come along with the 40's. I'm mainly wondering if the 40 series tires on 19's look too meaty or too big for our cars. I now keep seeing those same size tires on BMW 5 series and Audi A6's which of course are bigger cars. Decisions decisions…. Thanks again in advance for anyones comments.

Are you aware that 40 series tire has different tire wall in 235 and 245 width? it is a 40% of the width. So it can't be said that 40 on 19" is meaty or not without knowing the width.
One more thing to the subject - most people say that it "doesn't rub" when they can drive somewhat. But what you really want is safe setup that won't rub in every situation. Or at least that is what I want From what I saw I think that 35 ET 8.5" is sticking out the fenders. Eibach is nice and sensible (good choice!) 1" drop, so even if this is true and will stick out (mental IMO) it won't rub in a straight way, but when suspension is working that will be a different story.
And you cannot simply compare to BMW and AUDIs. Different cars really. For example next to me is Audi A6 that has 255/40/19 all around, and that doesn't mean anything in anyway for my TSX Different drivetrain (AWD/RWD), different weight, different everything. Stock size for TSX is 225 width and 235 width for type-s euro/V6.
BTW this guy has 245/40/19

I was not aware that the sidewall measurement was based on the tread width, thanks for clarifying (I learn something new all the time on here). Thanks again for the info, the wheels/tires will be here Tuesday so I guess I'll see if I like them and post here about them. Cheers.

I was going to ask the same question. From what i gather if your stock wheels are 225/50/17 then 245/35/19 is near perfect fit but ig you got 235/45/18 then 245/40/19 would be better.
Since cars are tehnicly same i imagine we can use 235 or 245/40 and be fine.
