LOL @ the Eibachs as I just ordered a set myself, $230 shipped from Motorsportsdirect on eBay.

Are you using your stock shocks with the ProKit?

ordered the Eibach PK yes, via Amazon (99mph parts) $210 shipped with a $10 credit I had. I'll try the OEM shocks for now and save my pennies for the Koni yellows

I may beat you to it, mine should be here tomorrow too.

I am resisting the temptation to install them on the KONIs with the perches on the lowest setting, which should lower the car 1 1/2" from stock vs. the advertized 1". This is what the car sits like now, 1/2" lower than stock with KONIs on lowest perch and stock springs. Installing ProKit on the KONIs as they are now will drop it another inch, if I put the perches back to the original stock location, drop will be 1/2" lower than pictured below.

I'd love to be low, but my practical side tells me "no" -- stupid age lol.

Whoops, didn't see you posted again, so want to go back up on your Koni's for a 1 inch total drop? I was hoping you were gonna go for the full 1.5 in total drop! Really looking forward to how this spring kit works with your Koni's already lowering you the half inch you described. Do you stockies sit inside the wheel wells or are they more flush? I wanna know if you have any clearance problems with the stockies you're running after installing the Pro Kit. Of course wanna see how it looks and rides! Do IT! ;-)

You guys are not helping the situation lol

The stockers are not tucking as-is, but when the car is loaded up they almost do. I need stiffer springs. I'll see how the sprigs look on the shocks and how much preload they'll have as-is. I don't want to scrape, and even as-is I can scrape one some driveways. I made special wooden plates just so I can drive into my garage.

I'll be running 17x8 53+ offset BBSs off an STi, probably with 235/45s once I can buy new tires. They have 225/50s on them now.

It's like that everywhere around here. I'm not new to driving low cars, I'm just not sure I want to deal with a slammed car. We'll see what happens. I' also concerned about suspension travel, spring preload -- not sure if ProKit is stiff enough to be that low.

I hear they are stiffer than the h-techs

Stan your car looks great BTW!! .....hate when people takes pics of dirty cars!!

I'm going to continue to check around for a deal on Koni shocks...cheapest I've seen has been $670 shipped which is still very pricey IMO.

Thank you. I'm guilty of taking and posting many pictures of my cars when they were dirty, but I'm improving.

Yeah, KONIs aren't cheap. I can see why the TEIN SS kit is so popular, and I'm sure it's a great kit. KONIs are also twin tube, but get close to price range of monotube setups. I could easily see someone saying "why spend money on KONI/ProKit, when you can get monotube H&R or BC coilovers for same price?" I like them though, and they've worked well for me on a few cars over few years. I just wish I could give you a ride before you commit to the purchase, it's always easier to make a decision knowing what to expect.

ehh, $917 is the best price I've seen, plus after dropping $917, I'd be paranoid about them....where do I get individual replacement parts or shocks for the TEIN if something breaks or I'm in an accident?? with the KONI/Eibach build its easy to buy a replacement shock or set of springs (if not under warranty).

Right. KONI is more of a lego-type deal (Marcus put it nicely -- Ikea-like installation procedure lol), and I'm into that. Few other reasons why I picked them vs. TEIN: dampers are same length as stock and should have more travel, can run OE or aftermarket springs or GC sleeves, and ultimately I believe the dampers to just work better than the TEIN. Besides, I prefer the European approach to suspension tuning vs. Japanese, some of this is because Japanese roads are so smooth (or so I hear).

I emailed Megan about the availability of replacement parts....(the shocks are available $115 ea)

Greetings Mike,

Thank you for the inquiry. Yes, we do sell individual coilover components to be replaced as for wear and tear purposes and also for the rebuilding of the coilover kit, as necessary.

To minimize downtime, we recommend complete diagnosis of the individual coilover components so everything that is necessary can be purchased at once without having to disassemble the coilovers multiple times.

The replacement parts are also subject to availability and while we try our best to keep all replacement components in stock, it is not always possible.

Paul@meganracing.com, a sales representative, can help verify availability.

Here is an article to help give you an idea of what parts we offer for individual sale and replacement with a photo diagram for you to become better acquainted with the order of assembly of a coilover:

Thank you and have a great day!

and furthermore...this is what I'd be afraid of...."sure you can get replacement struts......but they're out of stock...not sure when they will be available"

see red text below...

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the inquiry. As of replacement strut cost, cost on these are $115.00 each for just the strut (shock) alone. Shipping is roughly about $15.00 shipping within the U.S. excludes Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Shocks currently are out of stock at the moment.

I had BC Racing BR coilovers on an LS400 for a while and liked them. I'd get them over Megans for sure, even though they are supposedly both made by BC. They had to be built which took a few weeks, but once they were done they shipped directly from Taiwan, which took a day. I believe, with BCs replacement cartriges were $85/corner.

^ Good to hear. I'm leaning towards BC BR Coils for my TSX. Looking to place an order this weekend! How would you say the ride was? And what were your spring rates?

Ride was sweet. Springs were 12K/8K, the recommended rate for first gen LS400. Keep in mind, the thing weigh close to 3,800lb and was front-heavy -- it's a V8.

Rode awesome IMO, and handled well. Family didn't complain. Long-term reliability was unknown to me because I sold the car, and only ran the BCs for 5K or so. Car was not low, but I could have slammed it if I wanted to (wasn't looking for that).

Miss that bucket, great car.

Awesome. I think the recommended spring rates for the TSX are 10k/6k but I was thinking of going 8k in the rear because I have my subwoofer in the trunk which weighs ~200lbs. What do you think?

Hard to say, I haven't played around enough with this platform. It may work pretty well. Assuming stock rates are 280/175 lb/inch, 10/6 kg/mm would be roughly 100% stiffer than stock, keeping the stock balance front to rear. Going with 10/8 would be around 100% stiffer for the front and 150% stiffer in the back, so ratio would be different from stock. Combined with having more weight to throw around in the back, I'm not sure how well that would work out for handling (lift off the throttle in a turn on wet road and have the rear end loose traction and come around).

Of course, I'm pulling this out of my ass, more or less. Best way to know what works is to try it out and see what happens, wish I could do that with every suspension option out there lol.
