Choosing tire sizes for G2 TSX v6 for peformance and comfort.

Hey everyone!
I have a TSX V6 2010 that is specified for 235/45/r18x8. I have a stock tsx 17x7.5 rim set and I want to install tires that give a softer ride without sacrificing too much performance.

So I have been looking around at some combos and this is what I have found. 225/55/r17 is the max of the tire well with out rubbing when I hit a bump. This has a 5" wall. Then there is 235/50/r17 which is closer to the cars stock 18" rim and a wall of 4.6".

My previous configuration had 245/40/19x8 with a 3.9" wall and I was blowing up tires every month.

I like the idea of 5" wall protection for a soft ride but I'm afraid if this is too much wall and will pinch and roll when I take a hard turn. I also like wider tires for traction but I'm also worried this is too wide and will pinch when I hit a hole. Which of these are safest or provide the best ride or if you have a suggestion I would appreciate it.

You always always want to go as close as stock rolling diameter as possible. using your numbers you provided, this means using the 235/50/17s.
instead of focusing on profile height, maybe focus on type of tire. tires are constructed in different ways to provide different results.
you can get a stiffer side walled tire and it wont feel like it's pinching and rolling...

Most 235/45 R18 tires have an overall diameter of 26.3" to 26.5", while not terribly common, the 235/50 R17 tires also seem to fall in that range. Were I in our boat, this it the tire I would choose. Why?
  • Overall diameter is virtually identical, so the accuracy of your speedometer and odometer will not be affected.
  • The tread width is the same as your OEM tires, so grip at the limit should be about the same as well.

Thank you all for your suggestions. It seems unanimous that the best size is 235/50/r17 in my case. Horseshoes, you were correct in saying there were not many of these. I found 3 desirable tires locally in new compared to other size ranges. I ended up buying the Toyo Versado Noir for drive comfort and balanced traction.

I'll try to report back in 6 to 12 months on how they turned out. Thanks everyone!

How about 245/45/R17? This is what I am running on my I4 and it's great - Only have a ~1% spedo difference.
