Check the trunk main switch in the glove box. It's located on the left hand side when you open the glove box.

With the main switch switch off (down position), it will disable the trunk release button on the driver's door and the trunk release switch on the trunk lid. You do that when you give the valet key to someone parking your car (with the glove box locked), they will not be able to access your trunk.

When this happened to me, I only had the car for a few days. I was so pissed, when I found that switch. I said seriously, that was it. All I could do was laugh at that point.

If your switch is missing like mine was and you just want a quick fix: remove the glovebox, find the connector intended for the switch, loop a wire or anything conductive from one side of the connector to the other.
This completes the circuit and enables your buttons to work. May not be the "correct" way but works while you wait for the part or just dont feel like buying a new one!
