Stretched Studs

Stretched Studs
I made a post here several weeks ago about warped rotors from over-tightening of the lug nuts.
I have examined the wheel studs, and none of them are stripped or cross-threaded. However, many of them seem a bit stretched, especially closer to the wheel hub. The stretching isn't severe, but you can tell the threads are no longer evenly spaced.
Is this minor stretching something I need to have immediately fixed?
I have since had my rotors replaced by a very reputable mechanic, but forgot to mention the wheel studs to him. However, the mechanic didn't say anything about the condition of the studs, so I guess they're ok?

If the studs are only have "minor stretching" I'm going to say you are fine, but this is all subjective based on your observation and description. Are the studs of unequal length at this point? Also just because your mechanic didn't say anything, doesn't mean he even looked at them. I don't know the nature or type of conversation you had with him, but if you simply asked him to replace your rotors, that may be all he did. I don't believe stretched studs are all that common.

Immediately? No. But, I would replace the studs soon because now threads are compromise. The pressure on the wheel from the lug nuts could be uneven now or more susceptible to backing out.
Remember, if the stud threads are compromise so too are the threads on the lug nuts.

All the studs appear to be of equal length.
Fortunately, the threads are not stretched in the area where the lug nuts sit. It's only stretched near the hub.
At first, I actually went to the local Acura dealership - they looked at each stud and lug nut, and said it was fine, but they never took the wheel off to look at the entire stud - which had me a bit concerned.

Not good long term ! Now you now why they recommend certain torques for lug nuts !! I don't think you're in danger of snapping them off, but I'd still replace them and get a decent torque wrench !! Craig
