Ignition Switch Replacement
I replaced the ignition switch in my 10 TSX this weekend using the attached shop manual guidance. I had a recurring squeal from the switch. As usual there were some surprises. Here is what I learned.
1) Shop manual guidance on steering column cover removal is spot on. Follow closely to avoid damaging plastic trim. Lower column cover screws are not too tough but a good #2 phillps head is necessary. Two screws are deeply recessed and care is necessary to avoid stripping screw heads.
2) Unplugging switch electrical connector is not readily apparent. You must remove a lock/release tab to pull the plug. Tab pulls at right angle to connector. take your time and it is easy.
3) Screws retaining switch are difficult. I removed knee bolster cover for better access. See attachment for directions. Don't overlook single screw behind coin box.
Horizontal screw requires a right angle tool. I used 1/4 " ratchet, 1/4" socket and #2 phillips head bit to break loose.
Vertical screw required a flexible extension on ratchet screwdriver to break loose. Very tedious to remove and install. Note, a big person may have difficult time w/ under dash, upside down work.
Squealing problem was intermittent but wife was worried. I hope I did some good w/ this 2-3 hr job.
I'll post related shop manual procs in subsequent posts.
regards
