Talking Huge price drop on 2nd gen TSX OEM axles

Hi all,

I just wanted to let everybody know that there has been a huge price drop on new OEM axles for my 2010 Acura TSX 4 cyl AT from ACURA. A few weeks ago I was quoted about $600 for each of the front axles. They are now about $200 ea. I have no idea why Acura has dropped the price, but I did verify it by calling another dealership.
Please let me know if you have different info as I'm buying them this week.
Thanks

I gotta wonder why you need new axles? Mileage?

I've only heard of axles going bad due to car accidents. That, or extremely slammed vehicles causing a lot of stress on the axles.

I think 140000 would qualify as high mileage. Started getting a very subtle vibration from 50-70 mph. Ruled out tires, wheels and other front end components. Could be transmission I suppose. It's a guessing game as to what is causing it. Try to figure the most probable and least expensive and fix that. I've seen posts in other forums about people going to great lengths to get rid of the vibration and axles seem to be the culprit in a lot of cases.

I wasn't doubting you-- just opening up discussion.

I'm not a mechanic, but I'd assume you'd also hear a clicking or knocking or ticking if your axles were worn enough to cause a noticeable vibration.

It appears you have ruled out all of the usual starting points-- I'd be interested to know what it is. Keep us posted. Thanks.

I had to change my axles at 125,000km. I was running with Eibach Sportlines on stock struts for 1.25 years prior to that. At 140,000km one of them (re-mans) started to cause vibrations again and I had to replace under warranty from the vendor. My drop was done with proper camber kits in the front and back.

I'm hoping to not see this issue again... but.. I've been told that the axles on our cars (and the ones before) are just absolutely horrible...

Smile Update

I had two new axles and intermediate shaft replaced yesterday. I can’t tell you how happy I am that I have a smooth ride again. I’ve been living with one kind of vibration or another for about 4 months.
Here’s my story. Hopefully it will help someone in the future if they have similar problems.
My car is a 2010 base TSX AT bought new, it now has about 140000 miles.
It started with a very subtle vibration about 4 months ago between 55 and 70 mph which I do often driving 100 miles a day commuting.
The tires were pretty new only having about 25000 miles on them. I went to Costco where I bought them and had them balanced. Vibration still there.
Brought it to the Acura dealership next. They balanced the tires and couldn’t reproduce the vibration. Said it was probably a tire internal belt issue and should probably look at replacing the tires.
I then brought it to a local specialty front end shop. I asked them to check all front end components and motor/trans mounts for the possible cause of the vibration. I was told the passenger tire was visibly wobbling when brought up to speed on the lift. I was told to replace the tire.
I went to Costco had the tires balanced again. Took it for a ride, vibration still there, and replaced all the tires. I got a discount after telling them I was told the tire was bad. One time deal, $440 for 4 Michellin Pilot MMX tires. Vibration still there after that.
Brought it back to the front end shop and asked them to change out the axles since I had suspected the CV joints from the beginning. New (found out later, Cardone) axles installed.
Now a new vibration on acceleration at 20-30 mph appears. Still vibrates at 50+ mph.
After a test drive and front end inspection, the front end shop wants to replace only the passenger axle with a FEQ axle. After doing a lot of forum reading I decided I would only like new OEM, or rebuilt OEM installed and I didn’t want mismatched axles (one Cardone, one OEM).
We couldn’t come to an agreement so I brought it to the dealership. It was just before this that I discovered that the price for new OEM axles had dropped from about $600 to about $200 per side making it a no brainer. Cardone was $180 each.
I asked the dealership to replace the intermediate shaft since it could have been the cause of the original vibration. They were taking the front end apart anyway and I just wanted this vibration that had been driving me crazy gone. That part (intermediate shaft) was still expensive at $480, but I am so happy to be driving smooth again.
Moral of the story: Stay away from third party axles to fix vibrations and go with OEM if possible. Especially now that they are reasonably priced.

Forget that last question I read your sig, I'm thinking of trying new accord axles to get rid of my vibration, was yours ever so slightly that only you and it your passenger would feel it?

The high speed vibration was only felt by me because I use the car as a daily commuter. No one else with me. The high speed vibration went away after I changed the axles, but a new vibration/hopping feeling (seems to be drivers front side) occasionally appears while accelerating at about 25 mph. I changed the axles again hoping to resolve the issue but the 25 mph vibration/hopping feeling still persists.
Currently have 222,000 miles going for 300,000.
