Matte Black Grille and Emblems

I like the front end a lot more now, might not be for everyone though.

I had originally used Avery A6 car wrap vinyl but the black color was semi gloss which looked tacky. Took it off and sprayed it with Plastidip after so it's not permanent. It holds up as well as the vinyl just as long as the grille is cleaned and wiped with some rubbing alcohol.

Nice job wrapping, I know working with vinyl can be quite tricky. I know you said its matte, but it doesn't look completely matte in the pics. Still great though

That's pretty cool! An alternative to paint-matching.

It was originally wrapped in Avery A6 vinyl but I took it off. The pics above are actually Plastidip sprayed. It's semi transparent so you can kind of see the chrome underneath.

It only costs 5 bucks and it's not permanent.

All my previous Hondas have been turbo'd, I traded in an 07 Si that was turbo'd for the TSX. I was hoping the Greddy turbo kit that was on my Si would fit but the exhaust manifold is different, even though the k20z3's head is supposedly the same as the k24z3.

Do a google search on Plastic Dip, you will probably go out and buy a can.

damn your car is coming along nicely. Love the idea that it is removable and wasn't expensive.

I was considering doing the same with my grill but I think the car needs some chrome or at least shiny silver at the front and back to match the window trim.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of chrome, thought about taking off the badges as well.

Thanks, I plan on blacking out the window trim as well. I want window visors but don't like how the rest of the trim would still be chrome.

matte black window trim would look sick. I'm looking forward to seeing the final result of this plastic dip treatment.

Please don't do visors! I think all of those hood wind defectors, visors, and sun roof thingies look really tacky.

I actually painted my chrome flat black. I tried doing the flat black vinyl but it took too long and you have to be precise with your cuts.

Yeah, it's not for everyone. I'm still waiting on some parts to come in before taking final pics.

Lots of people use it especially the euro crowd. There's a video on youtube of a guy peeling it off his wheels, what sold me on this stuff.

Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, Osh, any hardware store should have it in the paint aisle. $5.98

Use a heat gun to soften the material up then just pull on it and trim off the excess. It takes a bit of practice. I wrapped an entire roof once, took me three tries and a whole lot of wasted vinyl. lol

awesome. i happened to lose one of my eye lids. now i can replicate my eye lids this way and trim it like it was fiberglass.

you know what! i can put this shit on my front lip that i made from scratch without having to deal with sanding OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG i can dip my full lip kit in this vinyl and make a mold out of it

ill make a video of this and see how this goes. does it stink? i have a respirator if it does

LOL It doesn't mask or trim very nicely, that's the only issue with this stuff. For example if you mask it or there's no edge to peel from then it comes off all jagged and ugly.

As a mold release I can see it working as well. Probably better to use poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) though.

i have PVA. id put PVA over the plastidip and then gelcoat/fiberglass it

so how does plastidip hold up with car washes?

Pressure washer? Check... Holds up great if you make sure to prep the surface by cleaning it.

Plastidip is meant for tools, such as the handle of a wrench, to make it more comfortable to grip. So it can take a beating. The clear plastidip doesn't come out glossy.

That looks sweet! Thanks for sharing this. I'm going to have to look into this, maybe this weekend.

So if it's not permanent, what if you want to remove it? What would be the best way of doing so?

You can do either, just as long as you don't spray your radiator or AC condenser behind the grille.

He he its tempting but weather here in Vancouver this time of the year is the worst time to do car projects. Plus I don't have a closed door garage. I can wait.

Sucks, it's been raining on and off here the past couple of days in SoCal and a few parts just came in from UPS. I know how it feels without having a closed garage.

I got black so that it would match my other car.
