DIY M3 hood vents installation (in progress)

Here it is. I bought 10' M3 hood vents and the honeycomb grills.

It should look good after it's all done. At least to me.

I had a vision, got balls the size of a grapefruit, confidence to do it and I'm going to make it work.

Following videos are the passenger side vent. I still need to clean up the edges so its more flushed. I bought aluminum sheet metal and will create brackets underneath to hold up the M3 vents. I have to use etch primer on the edges to prevent the metal from rusting and then touch up paint. I also plan to cut out clear plexiglass covers for the M3 vents for when it rains.

Working on the drive side vent tomorrow.

Also installed type s front lip and side skirts. I cut up the side skirts so I plan to mold the mud guards to the side skirts. Also did 35% window tint all around and blue tinted mirrors. Will post pics later on.

Nice, s2000 guys cut holes in their oe hoods as well. Not so sure I'd do this to my car though. Take some final pics of the car once it's totally done.

Alright, good stuff man, but I have to ask whats up with the fitment of your front lip!!! If thats how your leaving it I highly suggest you get a professional to look at it cause there's massive gaps on the edges....hopefully its not a straight up problem with the fitment cause Rawesome's looked alright and he got the same one?

oh yea the drive side has a huge gap. i ran out of double sided tape. my type s kit is different from rawesome. yea i saw rawesome's kit and his fit fine.

no worries. i can fix it. its a minor issue.

i need to get my kit repainted by a professional. the spray cans i got doesnt even match. so im saving up for a better paint job.

this lip is a type s replica. the one i made from scratch is the RSX lip that still needs to be sanded and replicated. im rolling with the type s front lip as a daily driver until i can complete my full lip kit.

Finished driver side M3 vent today. I didn't have much time afterwards so I have to do it next weekend to clean up.

M3 vents are not done yet. I have to sand down the sides, etch primer and touch up paint. Then work on the brackets.

Thank you for always innovating and being creative.
off topic, but it sucks that the 3g guys (the noobies) cant innovate and think for themselves.

I enjoy following your work, and you should be nominated for car of the month.

Honestly man, I think once you get your car cleaned up and finish up your vents, grille, lipkit etc., your car is gonna look GREAT! Side skirts look sick and they work well with your rear mud guarts.

Umm, not trying to hate on the OP or anything because I admire the time and effort he puts into everything, but these projects aren't innovative at all. Innovation = Originality. These projects aren't original. He's just taking parts and "looks" from other cars and somehow putting it on his. I mean look at his car, it's part Acura, part Infiniti, part Mazda, and now part BMW. It's a mutt.

IMO, the only really innovative car on this forum is jptl04. No one will EVER surpass his car in terms of originality, creativity, and customization.

inovate has two meanings; to come up with something new(this is your usage), and to make changes in something thats already established.
so you see, Defcon is definately innovating and being creative. I also mentioned the nubs and I dont think jltp is a nub, dont you agree?

i made foglight housings and a full body kit from scratch. does that count?

Nice work, but those wheels look awkward coming from an infiniti onto an acura, you need some nice 19' wheels to fit your car and continue the flow.

my to do list:

1) getting my lip kit, grill and hood vents professionally paint matched. the rattle cans arent working for me.
2) install my type s rear lip
3) work with plexiglass. i plan to cut them out as covers over the vents for when it rains.
4) also cut out plexiglass covers for my foglight housing
5) fiberglass the gap inbetween the mudguards and sideskirts.
6) remake some eye lids since i lost one.
7) re-wrap grill with CF vinyl
8) sand down my other lip kit
9) change the shape of the mouth (making it interchangeable add on. fiberglass work)
10) add beveled edges around foglight housing (fiberglass work)

hey defcon, very nice job. its coming along nicely. i was wondering where you ordered those blue tints for the side view mirrors from? was it precut? or did you have to do it yourself?

Honestly didn't think this would come out nice at all, but it looks great and IMO compliments the rest of the car nicely There are plenty of mods on your car that I've never seen done before. Props for being original.
