Another PCD/Exhaust thread

I'm wanting to get the RV6 PCD.

Should I hack my stock exhaust and add the 18" vibrant resonator, OR should I get some mufflers (megan racing m-vo, cte??, hks?) and see what that sounds like - then ultimately end up adding the resonator?

I saw in a thread here some people had luck killing the rasp with some aftermarket mufflers...

Note that vibrant bottle-style res has 18" in overall length, the body length is around 15ish. I'm afraid this alone won't be able to kill the rasp.

IMO, go for aftermarket mufflers first, add resonators later. You can then adjust the loudness to your liking.

I personally have Vibrant Ultra Quiet -> OEM res (used to have Vibrant Ultra Quiet here, but swapped this back to OEM) -> Magnaflow 14829.

Have any sound clips?

Seems like everyone gets the magnaflows. I really just want something smooth sounding. No rasp. Doesn't have to sound like a g37, though I won't complain if it does.

I got the impression that the stock resonator with the vibrant killed the rasp, but you didn't think so?

Stock res + vibrant ultra quiet will kill that rasp. That's what i currently have. But i doubt the vibrant res alone (without stock res) will be able to do so.

This was when i had 2 Vibrant Ultra Quiet res. This setup had a fair amount of drone after 30 mins or so driving. To the point that i felt reluctant to step on the gas.

I just put the stock res back to its original position last week. It's quieter now though it still has the rumble and deep sounding.

I should stop spending on the exhaust now.

If you want zero rasp with the PCD, do stock res + Vibrant Ultra Quiet. Recommended setup by many in the original PCD thread. You can go with other aftermarket resonators, but this has been tried and true if you don't mind hacking up your OEM exhaust.

I say do mufflers first. I suspect you will have the itch and end up wanting to do this anyway later on, so might as well start with it first and see if it cures the rasp to begin with, thus saving you a bit of money on labour + 2nd res. It probably won't cure it 100%, but it might get to a point where you're satisfied.

And there's no way our 4 banger is gonna sound like a G35 . Maybe on the J35.

I've been wanting to add a RV6 PCD to my modified Tsudo SP2 cat back, but I replaced the Tsudo resonator with a longer no name brand resonator just to eliminate the cabin drone. Afraid the PCD will create more problems.

Unless someone wants to buy my Tsudo and I'll start over with my exhaust?

minhdung1911 - Does your current setup of oem res and vibrant produce drone? Doesn't seem like it would...

Does anyone know of some mufflers that produce a low-mid tone with lots of packing?

Seems like everyone goes with the magnaflows, the only thing about them that kind of has me weird about them is how in every video it sounds like it is farting when the revs come all the way back down. Almost like a rattle or something... I've heard it in probably 7 videos though.

The megan racing m-vo's looked like something I might be interested in but I don't know anything about the quality of them.

Couldn't find a sound clip of the cte mufflers by themselves... only the no longer existent catback; I imagine they sound similar though.

Edit - Is the vibrant ultra quiet 1140 the right diameter for stock pipes? I hear the oem exhaust is nice but I'm not sure how much it matters to me about chopping it up... I don't see what I would benefit from having 2.5" pipes. And I would have no good place to stick the stock exhaust, other than throwing it in the storage unit...

The sound of my current setup is bearable but noticeable, nothing crazy. I don't like anything too loud and drony anymore, guess i'm getting old :-). I think there will always be drone no matter what exhaust system you have.

I don't hear the noise you are talking about. Does my video have it?

Yeah, Vibrant 1140 fits. I wouldn't go up to 2.5" either.

I'll see if I can post one later. I didn't notice it in your video, but from what I've heard it is when the exhaust is being recorded from behind the car - like when they are idling then revving. It's when it comes back down to idle speed that the sound occurs. Probably not a big deal, but I'm picky. :P

How would you describe the outside sound of your exhaust? Low to mid tone with a smooth growl?

Any thoughts on the cte mufflers?

Here is a random example. Listen closely after the rev for the rattle like/can fart sound... Its quieter in comparison to the rev. What is it?

I see what you are saying. I don't notice with my setup. I've never heard CTE ones so not sure how they sound. You may want to hold off on the exhausts for a little longer until Greddy releases one.

I'd be stoked if greddy released one.
I'll be holding off anyway... Checked my oil a couple days ago and it was on the bottom dot. Going to be playing games with Acura for the excessive oil consumption TSB. I read somewhere they made the piston rings too small and that is the problem.

I have the RV6 PCD and test pipe with the stock exhaust. The video with the magna flow mufflers sounds a lot better than mine..

I'm about to trade in my car and will have the PCD out of the car and for sale soon...
