ASASN21 11-19-2010 10:55 PM

EDIT: Nevermind, I meant it sarcastically but I didn't realize it was that TSX - shit is hot (Except for the push button).

MurkyRiversTL 11-19-2010 10:58 PM

Since it had a push button start (aka never)

xtremex626 11-20-2010 02:42 AM

not my cup of tea.. agree with what murky said. if only that was a real feature like what they on lexus', it'd be nice and original :)

CU2MIKE 11-20-2010 04:10 AM

I'll just stick to remote engine start...... when i have the money that is lol

TSXV6Guy 11-20-2010 06:47 AM

I think it's easier to do for the V6, since it has the "one touch ignition"; when you turn the key to "start", you are only giving the signal to start the car: you don't hold the key but the computer starts the car. So you can wire the push-button to the start signal from the ignition wire harness and you can push the button to start instead of turning the key all the way. I personally don't see any benefit for this other than the wow factor hehe:thumbsup:

its rayden 11-20-2010 09:17 AM

^^ agreed.

CU2MIKE 11-21-2010 05:48 PM

I personally dont like push button start (The factory one, without key). Imagine what would happen if your electrical system went haywire and you can't start your car without a key.......Oh boy.......

MurkyRiversTL 11-21-2010 05:53 PM

The same kind of electrical problem could take place with a keyed ignition and not start. The key doesnt serve any purpose other than having a secure way to start the car. No key, no start.

Same wires are used... theoretically.

TrixieSX 11-22-2010 07:09 AM

When you have electrical problem its not so much about starting but shutting down. Pushing a button is not the same as physically turning the switch off. Say your drive by wire goes wild (Toyota, I'm looking at you...jk). I would be more comfortable turning the key than "hoping" the computer still accepts button inputs for it to shut the ignition down.

MurkyRiversTL 11-22-2010 09:17 AM

Put it into neutral and problem solved. Yeah your engine will rev the shit out of itself but who cares. If there is a problem with the car that isnt caused by you, the manufacturer will have to take care of it.

Thats what I dont understand about the toyota cant stop thing. Did anybody think to put the damn car in neutral???

baltimorecaesar 11-22-2010 11:44 AM

What's the point of a starter switch that still requires you to put the key in the ignition?

MurkyRiversTL 11-22-2010 01:01 PM

^ Exactly

+1

Tannis 11-28-2010 11:02 AM

Neutral is for smart, logical people that don't let their car take them screaming down the highway at 124 mph and and kill everyone inside. Sorry if that seems cold hearted and shallow but that kind of mindless thinking gets people killed on the road everyday.

Back to the OP... Could an ignition setup be pulled from the TL and swapped into the TSX? I don't know crap about ignitions or the wiring of them but I know I've been bitching about it not having the push start whereas a $17k Nissan Versa (my sisters) has push start. WTF?! And don't tell me it was to save on R&D or to keep MSRP down. Not like it would've added that much. If I were to do this it'd have to be completely keyless, like the key never comes out of my pocket, except to open the doors.

MurkyRiversTL 11-28-2010 01:14 PM

My key never comes out of my pocket. I can open the doors the trunk and start the car without ever touching my key. I have a feeling the tsx MMC will have that option.

The BMW 528i xdrive we looked at before buying the TSX in Oct. had that setup. Silly method, IMHO. If I need to insert the key, I might as well turn it to start the car. A Maxima I rented in 06 had the keyless pushstart & door unlock. That was a nice setup.

Tannis 12-06-2010 06:42 PM

Another car that has this is the Volvo C30 which is one of the other cars I looked at briefly. They said it was keyless. I was like, ok, so I got in the car and hit the push start and he was like, no you have to put the key in the slot. HUH???? Dumb:whyme:

EuroAccordTSX 12-07-2010 12:18 PM

What's crazy is that many brands offer push-button start, even on their economy models. Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Mazda all have push-button and keyless entry on entry-level models... I'm surprised that with as technologically advanced as Acura claims to be, the TSX still uses a key.

When I was a day away from signing for my TSX I was talking to one of the other sales guys and said the exact same thing. I even mentioned my sister's Nissan VERSA (key NEVER comes out of your pocket) and he said that Acura was more concerned with R&D on the TSX that adding push start would have been too expensive and that the car was so good it didn't need it.

LAME ANSWER!

Then if the car didn't need it why is it on the TL?! Seriously. Why isn't this freakin car keyless? I can't figure this out. Maybe their R&D team will discover that you can put keyless on a vehicle called a TSX. Who knew?! PS... I HATE that stupid retractable key fob. Wanna know how many times I've almost snapped the damn key off the hinge because it came unfolded in a bag or my pocket? Now I'm ranting. It wasn't a deal breaker but come on! It's 2010!

And they still have that stupid, over-sized valet key. I'd rather have the old style 2 keys instead of the folding key if they aren't going to have keyless ignition & doors.

TSXKid2010 01-04-2011 01:38 PM

Maybe because the TSX is from Japan whereas the TL is only in America...? I mean push button ignition is something that people in America would be all like "Oooo Ahhh" over it, but who cares in Japan bout that stuff....
I mean it's just an observation.

baltimorecaesar 01-04-2011 01:41 PM

Push to start is great, if you don't have to remove your keys from your pocket. Otherwise, its a big fucking pointless waste of time, unless your a ricer fanboy.
