Nav DVD versions b/w 2010 and 2011

Do the 2010 and 2011 navigation on tech package use the same DVD loaders? Or are they specific to the year?

I'm wondering whether it's possible to just order the part# for the display on the 2011, and put it into the 2010. Would have to look at schematics, but maybe it was just purely a display upgrade to allow the same firmware to bump up its own graphics.

Hey that's actually not a bad idea. BUT I don't think it would work since the 2011 uses a HDD Nav system, if I remember Correctly

Its a completely different system based on a hard drive. I don't believe those are just DVD drives. I think the graphics system is contained in that drive as well. I'm guessing its all hardware.

I don't know - it might not matter. There might be a firmware upgrade to both if it's the same upgrade path - and the navdata would be separate from the firmware upgrade

I'm guessing if it's one dvd set to upgrade both the 2010/2011 (since there would eventually be some sort of upgrade path on the 2011), then it means that there was a firmware upgrade, but the nav data is loaded to the hard drive as part of the upgrade, and the firmware upgrade includes changes where it has to look to the hard drive, as well as a DVD drive (if its a backward compatible update)... if that makes sense?

Any way to find out how updates are handled for the 2011?

the new system is harddrive based in addition to having a new screen as well. it is very possible in theory but would be a large project that would require some technical skill and the removal of alot of the TSXs trim pieces
