Yesterday, a brand new set of 5K white 1800 lumen LED bulbs arrived from VLEDS. This setup replaces our drl/high beam bulbs. According to VLEDs, these bulbs put out 30% more light than the traditional halogen bulbs. Prior to these bulbs I had VLEDS 28 led tower and the output difference is like night and day. These new bulbs are insanely bright and at night time provide terrific illumination. I don't have any night time shots yet but will post some later on.

The box is part of the setup but yes, it was plug and play. Very sime installation. The part ID is CXA.

Are those the 9005 or the H11? I asked if they threw a code when changing them out, but they hadn't tried them on our cars specifically. Very nice, and I'm looking to do the same soon.

9005. H11 are for fog lights.

Looks great man! How does the high beam perform at night vs the standard highbeam?

These are 9005 bulbs. I previously purchased a resistor from VLeds for my previous led bulbs b/c they threw a code. I didn't try and plug these up without the resistors since they were already there.

High beam puts out significantly more light than the standard halogen bulbs. I now have great visibility at night and the drls are almost bright enough to drive with by themselves.

Thanks JR, that sounds fantastic. Love the setup on your car. My last last question for you is this: Do the operate like the standard bulbs out of the box -- meaning -- when I turn on my regular low beam headlights, the VLEDs go off?

Yup, they function the same as the current drls. When you turn on the low beams they cut off.

No problema.

what color is the output? I know you said 5000k but it looks like it has a hint of yellow.

This is the very first batch of these 2nd generation bulbs VLEDs has shipped. Originally these were supposed to be 6000k, but when the set came in, they reclassified them as 5000k. They are extremely white in color in person, no blue hue. I bought them to match my 5000k V3 triton switch backs but these aren't quite as white.

Yup, they are plug and play. Installation was a breeze, took maybe 10 minutes for both sides. They don't throw a code with the resistors. I will try them without the resistors and let you know if what happens.

I just put in a set of these, and didn't know that i would need resistors. These will throw a code without them.

JR_Rider did you get the 9005 resistor kit from V-Leds? I've been reading a few other threads and some people say you need a relay as well, not just the resistor v-leds sells.

Yes, I purchased my resistors from V-Leds but about a year ago, when I purchased my old tower bulbs. You can purchase the correct resistor from autolumination for half the price of the V-Led resistor. I think I paid $20 for mine. As far as a relay, there's no need for anything else other than the resistor and what's included in the bulb setup from V-Leds.

hey JR, im gonna try to get my switchbacks replaced for the gen2, what did you mention to them was the issue with them? I havent even used mine but id like to make sure i have a set before i through with the install since it will probably be a pain in the ass

Just tell them the bulbs go in and out intermittently. They are well aware of all the issues with the gen 1s. They will have you purchase the gen 2s and return the gen 1s.

I couldn't find any order info from VLEDs on the resistors so I will check what's written on them tomorrow.

Sorry for taking so long to figure this out. I couldn't find an order thru VLEDs but I remembered they were sold out at the time so I just purchased these off ebay. They are 100W 6 ohm load equalizers with the 9005 plug. They can be purchased from ebay or here from VLEDs http://www.vleds.com/resistors/in-li...05-1-pair.html

Install is a bit difficult in that the resistors get smoking hot.

used a open threaded hole with allen head bolt.





drivers side.....i used a plastic rivet to mount it to rad support open hole........when i get a few minutes i will pull out battery and mount it to the plastic thing in front of the battery.

DRL: whats different is that these ONLY have 2 leds and they project towards the reflector. when you look dead on, just drls, you can see a black sopt in the center. once you out the HB on that goes away due to brightness.




to show the brightness i took some shots out of my garage. the houses across the street are a good 80-100 feet from the front of my car.

the resistors i had from my JLC kit are 10ohm per side. vleds sells PNP 6ohm. i had some vleds with the plates and also the covers and used 6ohm since thats what I had to mount on the plate.

if you can do wiring you could make a small order from autolumination and buy all you need to make it PNP. or you can order them from vleds for 18 bucks for the pair.

and the drivers side will be moved to the plastic battery box shortly.

The resistors make sure the bulb out warning does not come up......the lights will work without the resistors but will give the bulb out warnings.

For fog lights I would go with tradition
Hids if I were you. They are cheaper and have a much higher lumen output.

I thought about HID's for fogs but its too bright in my opinion and seems like everyone here already has them in their cheap civics. I want to match something similar to my low beams and I'm sure everyone knows that fog lights don't really do anything, I think its mostly for aesthetics.

Regular halogens produce about 800-1000 lumens and these LED's produce about 1800 which is perfectly suited for my taste. Just want to see what I need to buy in order to make it work.

One last thing I forgot. Are these bigger than the OEM bulbs? Do I need to retrofit the housing or will it fit without modification?
