Custom Escort Radar Smart Radar setup

My goal with this project was to come up with an affordable, super stealth radar detector setup that I could run in Virginia and DC w/o any worries. I purchased the Smart Radar because I like the functionality of the detector and the full iphone control but most importantly because it's undetectable even by the newest in Spectre IV+ radar detector detectors. This setup consists of a custom remote install of the actually display inside of the rearview mirror housing by Scott of radar-mirror.com. I also had him mount the controller on the back of the mirror and relocate the speaker from the detector to the mirror with cutouts to allow sound to escape. The actual radar detector itself is mounted inside of the center headrest and is completely undetectable. I did lose laser functionality with this setup but in all honesty by the time you're hit with a laser detector, it's too late to slow down, since the range is so much shorter.

Very nice setup. Wanted to do something similar with my car but I don't always take my car on long trips so i need to transfer my radar. What is the reason for putting the console in the headrest? and would taking off the headrest break some cables? JW

I had the unit mounted inside the headrest because I didn't want an officer to be able to easily discover the unit. Headrest was the best option that didn't look unnatural and would protect the unit from the elements. There is about 6 inches of cabling underneath the headrest. So you can actually remove the headrest without any problems. The cables are then mounted inside of the seat cover so you can fold the seats down without any problems.

$1250 for the entire setup installed. The detector was $450, custom mirror display and headrest mounting of detector was $550, and install at the dealer was $250. They will do custom work for any radar detector. Most of the mirrors he does are for the 9500ci installed system and Valentine 1.
