Somebody already makes a whole interface and software which can do that, but it's stupid expensive

ok not sure if it's been mentioned but i want to add a back up camera and have google maps or mirror my phone onto a aftermarket navi screen. i don't want to lose any stock features like bluetooth or climate controls functions on the screen at the top of the dash. I've seen a few relocate the screen . are there aftermarket screens that have the climate controls into the screen?

Is there a better option in regards to a tablet other than the Nexus 7? Like something with better features etc. Just wondering bc I'm considering tackling this project within the next few weeks and I want to make sure I put a tablet in that won't get old fast. Will I be able to mirror my iPhone on it?
#486
Not that hard to figure out... Google the specs of the tablet and then find something of the same size and work with that... Maybe you can mirror it but who knows.. it's an Android tablet most Android users don't have iPhones. Also it's a tablet, it's gonna get old.
With that said mine is still going strong. Only issue is that it feels like the GPS isn't as strong anymore but otherwise works great for everything else. If I replace it, it would be another Nexus 7 or another Android tablet of the same dimensions.

The nexus tablet is the best for a car install being that you can setup the auto on off, external gps, USB OTG, camera, etc.
Make sure you get a nexus 7 gen 2.

i am thinking of buying nexus 7 and putting it right above my 6mt shifter. similar to what iamitman has done with nexus 7.
my question is how can i make nexus 7 as my hub for picking and receiving phone calls. i have 2009 tsx and making a phone call throught hfl bluetooth is pain.
so can someone please suggest how can i make tablet to make and receive calls through tablettalk app.
thanks everyone

The only place it will fit is where I had mine and where curtdragon has his. The other guy used some other smaller tablet. I had a screen there before also and it's too far down to be usefull.
Also, the app for calls is called Tablet Talk. its a good app. you can see your texts on the tablet and also call / receive.

Hey iCrap.
So how much will the setup cost me with nexus7. I m not a tech savvy person so i ll be getting everything done from a profession. i ll follow your earlier post to order the right things to get everything install in my car.
because like i said the most important thing is to be able to make calls through bluetooth which is very hard in my 2009 tsx. apparently acura fixed this issue in later models.
Thanks

It's a very easy setup. The cost is not much.... you need the tablet, the bezel, some USB wires, charger and that's about it. The biggest cost literally is the tablet. So all in all probably $200 or less? I think I did mine for like $120 or so.
I know i wrote a little DIY somewhere in this thread with instructions, also curtdragon did i think. so follow that and you'll be good.

Harness problems, wiring to OEM and Aftermarket
Hello guys,
I am very new in this forum and also not have information or experience about car electric/electronis things..
I have an Accord Tourer (TSX) which is also known as Acura TSX Wagon i USA.
It has OEM premium sound system with 6CD/DVD player on board, bluetooth functions, amplifier+subwoofer..
After reading a making lot of forums and instructions, decided to make my own make-up for my Non-Navi system.
I bought that parts"
1. Joying From China (Aliexpress, €300)
2. A harness to wiring and integrating to OEM wiring. That one is for Civic but look to the connectors! It ame also with a Can-Bus interface which is allowing to own steering wheel controls: Harness €30 with canbus €15 without CB
3. A Fascia to install and integrate 2 DIN: Fascia
4. Wireless backup reverse cam: Camera
5. USB Dash cam: Dashcam
I have a problem at this moment, the harness that i bought is mentioned for CIVIC the pinout/wiring of the connectors not really same as Accord/Acura TSX. There are some differences between these and mine. So i have to find out what is not in place or which wires are not presented. Because my original 24 pin plug have allready 22 pin in/out but aftermarket came with 15. And the colors are not same too. So it is obvious it will not work if i plug it directly. But i gave it a try. Taking the whole radio and trims are a bit difficult for me but i am done with it. After connecting the new Android radio, i do not have sound anymore. Nothing. Android device is working very nice and it is adding really lot of features to your drive. So it worth to try. I tried also a USB dash cam and reverse cam. Both of them gave some errors. No Signal at backup cam and green blurry screen on USB dash cam. But other futures like "Torque" , google market and other products, apps, GPS works like charm.
I am not a technichian and have no clue about installing this kind of things but looking to forums to find a way out.
Now i am remapping and connecting/replacing/adding wires to the harness and make it right to match OEM wiring. This is like a kind of puzzle and takes time which i do not have... I will post a video when i am done.

Groupon just had a sale on then for about $130.
Only thing I want to note now that there is Android 6.0 these work so much better Doze will put the tablet in deep sleep when sitting. It reduces battery drain significantly. I lost about 1% overnight (9 hours)
There or tons of ROMS you can get with custom kernels that will help even more with battery life.

Wow after going through 13 pages of this thread I have almost made up my mind about replacing that boring monochrome screen with a p/f/n/s-81acrd system. I'm glad to see that the TSX will support a product meant for Accords, but I want to replace my boring screen in my 2012 TL. I would assume that almost all Honda's and Acura's share common technology and wiring harnesses and if a product built and designed for a Accord works flawlessly with a TSX, then I should expect the same thing with my TL. I know I'm in the wrong forum right now but no one in the TL section has this much success as you TSX guys with this topic. I would assume the shroud would differ but everything else seems to be the same from what I've read. Anyone disagree? Would appreciate feedback

No but your tablet will fight with the phone on audio streaming unless you turn that audio profile off or turn off the bluetooth on once device. Also HFL sucks ass... no other way to explain but it will randomly disconnect you and if you have both audio devices it's random which it will choose. Phone always works for calls though. Audio streaming will pause at that time.

It depends how you set it up. There is no reason to use HFL on your nexus so just disable that profile and leave it for your phone.

HFL has two profiles, one for calling and one for streaming audio. I dont even have mine anymore btw (it wrecked). But I was only using the streaming audio profile on the nexus while using the other calling profile for my phone.

Hold up guys, what's HFL?
So i can still use stock BT along with steering wheel controls with the nexus?
For playing music or pandora off my phone i can mirror it?
Do you guys have more info on setting this up? i really want to do something mainly where i can add a rear back up camera and access google maps. I was going to do a rear view mirror that is android based but that costs over 300

Anybody own this one and can comment on their experience? Thanks!

Bringing back an old thread. I'm not sure if this has been covered or not. The backup camera came with my car (tech package). Will this cease to work once I add the tablet? I see a lot of talk about attaching an aftermarket camera to the Nexus but I'm not sure if that applies to me or just those without the stock camera. Sorry for my ignorance and thanks for the help!

2 years later and this thread still goes hard. Today I was able to get a complete navigation system off a 2012 tech including the underdash harness, but after seeing this thread and having uninstalled this navigation stuff myself, I think itd be easier to just go the routes people have been going in this thread.

Fa sho! I'm still loving my android headunit especially since there is custom firmware with gapps removed.
I don't understand the tablet thing though. Why go through all that customizing when the android headunits are a straight install and have everything built it for $200-$300.

Its cool to see that the thread is still alive but the one question I have is when will car companies stop fobbing their crappy nav and sound systems off on us? Why can't they just give customers their choice of dashboard interface at time of purchase...as in you can go with Android or IOS....I started my dashboard mod back in 2012 but now its 2017....time to wake up Acura, et al !!!

This looks so tempting. There are a couple of units available on Amazon for as low as $250 so definitely worth it. The only thing that I personally see having issues with is obtaining the nav-screen frame for a reasonable price. Has anyone had any luck with the chinese fabricators/suppliers to sell us just the frame?
ArtJ, I am sure a lot of us here are waiting on the video of this unit. Kudos to you in taking the plunge to try it out. If I can get a reasonably priced frame, I am definitely pulling the trigger on this one.

I have a 2010 Acura TSX non-nav.
Has anyone tried this Liandlee unit or something similar? I really hate to have a second monitor at the top to just show A/C temp and time.
I want to add Apple CarPlay and a backup cam. And I actually would like the factory stereo wheel to navigate CarPlay if what this website says is true. Not sure if the factory mic stays active but I'd prefer that too.

The other option would be doing a basic aftermarket setup with the Pioneer AVIC-W8600NEX. But I'd hate to have 2 displays for no reason.

Another question I had was basically buying on eBay a used 2010 Acura TSX GPS display and radio unit, replacing my stock non nav unit then adding GROM vLink 2 for Carplay. I can't seem to find any attempt of this online. Theoretically should work.
