2009 tsx + cell phone compatiblility (verizon)
Hi all, first post here so bear with me ...
I have a 2009 tsx w/navi and I need a new cell phone (verizon) ... any good spots that list the most compatible (my current connection sounds real fuzzy to the person I'm talking to) and/or how to figure out if new phones are compatible (aka: HTC droid incredible ... not listed on handsfreelink website - are there ways to upgrade car?)
thanks!

As far as I know, there are no changes/upgrades you can make to the car. If a phone is not listed on the Acura HFL web site, it probably hasn't been tested yet for compatibility. The ones that are listed, will say which features work and which don't for each phone.

The bluetooth in my car is very quirky with my iphone. Sometimes it wont connect. sometimes I will need to reinput the code to connect.
i don't like how when I use my phone to answer instead of my steering wheel it connects to blue tooth when it should go to the phone if that is how you answered.
I don't like how it will hang up on your conversation if you turn the car off instead of just returning back to phone mode.
In my previous lexus IS and Toyota Tacoma the bluetooth was flawless and vastly superior to Hondas version.

Hi all, I have a sprint palm pre and am trying to pair with a 2009 TSX with tech package. The phone pairs alright, but when used for streaming bluetooth music there is an extreme amount of static that makes the music sound horible. When I pair with a 2010 TSX it works fine, crystal clear. Well it turns out the 2010 acura TSX has a different bluetooth module in it.
My real concern is that the HFL website says the palm pre should work. The acura service department claims it is my phone that is the problem, even thought I have paird multiple different palm pres with the car.
Anyone else have issues with bluetooth streaming of music and the palm pre or any other phone for that matter (my sprint EVO also does not work, but it is technically not approved) My feeling is that Acura put some bum bluetooth units in the 2009.

I would say take it in and demonstrate the noise on your 2009 and lack of noise on a 2010 and see if you can get them to replace the BT module. It is still under warranty. By Sprint Palm Pre works great in my 2010. I still prefer to use a USB stick for music but Slacker and Pandora are great too sometimes.

Yep took it in and showed them, they played around with it and replaced the unit and it still does not work. They say its the phone and sprints problem.
Basically there is a different bluetooth unit in the 2010, to replace what I guess is a crappy unit they put in the 2009. I wish acura would step up and admit the 2009 unit is bad and replace with the 2010 unit.
Just was curious to see if others had the same issue. If enough people report the problem maybe they can do something about it.

You might find out if they would work with you on replacing with the 2010 unit if you plan to keep the Pre.
I know all the reading I have done on BT and phones there are lots of issues out there based on the car manufacturer, BT unit, phone, software version, etc. There are lots of people who aren't happy with their phone/BT setup.
Good luck.
To all those looking for new phones, take them to your car and try them, certainly a store will let you do that with a real demo and most cell phone carriers have a 30 day moneyback.
Joel - but you just can't beat the pre can you? WebOS is awesome. Have you checked out www.precentral.net?

I'm considering the 2011 TSX Sport Wagon without navigation. I have the original Motorola Droid, the A855, running Android 2.2. The Acura HFL website seems to indicate that this phone is partially supported. Specifically, that I can make an outgoing call but I cannot take an incoming call. This seems to make the Bluetooth phone pretty pointless. I've got another 15+ months with this phone and don't like the idea of not having a reasonably functioning Bluetooth experience in the car. Can anyone indicate their specific experience with the original Droid in a non-nav, 2011 TSX? Your statement that it works seems to possibly be at odds with Acura's assessment, or you may not have the 2011 or it may have nav, etc, I don't know.
Thanks for any input you can provide.

I can sort of answer your question. I have a tech sports wagon and the original droid running android 2.2.2. My droid can make and receive calls in my car. It does have an issue with connectivity every now and then which requires you to delete the phone on the car and repair it. Besides that it works fine. I can even stream audio.

I just switched to the Samsung Fascinate, which was kind of a good/bad thing. Phone is much faster than the Droid, but now I have a kind of annoying stutter/popping sound when I listen to music via bluetooth.

Just an update, I have found a problem with the Fascinate. It seems it keeps losing the bluetooth pairing with the car, so I have to constantly re-pair the phone, as in re-doing the whole process. I will probably switch phones soon, because I've had other problems with the phone that is unrelated to the car.

I went through TWO loaner vehicles during this time, both 2020 TSX Techs and BOTH sounded crystal clear with BT Audio. I have to give the service dept credit, they really did try to fix the issue. They ultimately came to the conclusion (after multiple talks with the Acura engineers) that it was a 2009 issue and they could not put a 2010 radio into my car to fix it (Acura claims they are too 'different' ????).
I'm less than pleased and am expecting a phone call from the Acura regional rep this week. By the time they finished with my car, I was outside the 30-day return window on the new phone (LG Optimus - Sprint), paying an extra $10/month on my cell phone plan to have the phone, and selected it because the HFL site said it was compatible.

I have an Eris and it does work, but mine is extremely unreliable. The Bluetooth will drop randomly in calls. To the person on the other end the call drops; in the car the music flips on but the phone thinks the call is still live. It takes rebooting the phone to restore. Sometimes it works, but when I need it to work it will fail.
I’ve tried just about everything at this point so now I’m looking for a new phone. Shortlist is HTC Trophy, Droid X2, Samsung Charge.

So I couldn't stand the Samsung Fascinate anymore because of the pairing problem and bluetooth audio stutter/static, so I switched to the Droid X yesterday. No pairing problems so far, bluetooth audio is great without any static or stutters. Will test calling out and receiving calls later today.

Just wanted to confirm that Droid X can make and receive calls. So pretty much everything works. Also, for some reason on the compatibility website, it lists the Droid 1 as not able to be paired, but that's false. Droid 1 works with everything. BTW, I'm on a non-tech.

Just would like to add: I have the Sony Ericsson X10, previously it was on android 1.6 and it didn't pair up properly with the car. Luckily when android 2.1 update came along, everything worked perfect, bluetooth streaming and hfl. There is the odd time that it will not pair correctly when i get in, but i just shut off the bluetooth on my phone and that usually does the trick, never have i had to repair the phone tho.

My Droid 2 works but it's iffy sometimes. Sometimes it's good to reboot the phone when you get in. I also find that the sound quality is better if i'm not on the phone already when i get in the car. whatever happens with the phone pairs and the car 'takes' over the call sometimes messes up the quality.
