Wiper Blade Refills
 

Hey Guys,

Trying to help my wife with her 2012 Acura TSX (2nd Gen) and wiper blades. She needs some new ones and I wanted to know where is the best (cheapest) place to pick up some new blades (refills)?

Go to the local auto parts store and buy what they have or buy them off Amazon? I recommend Bosch Icons from Amazon (or Wal-Mart).

Get the rubber inserts from dealer or online OEM parts store.

I do just happen to have the part numbers jotted down...

The blade assemblies:
BLADE, WINDSHIELD WIPER (550MM) (PASSENGER SIDE) 76630-TL0-G02
BLADE, WINDSHIELD WIPER (600MM) (DRIVER SIDE) 76620-TL0-G02

Just the blade inserts:
76622-SLN-A12 / RUBBER, BLADE (600MM)
76632-SHJ-A11 / RUBBER, BLADE (550MM)

The assemblies will run you about $20 apiece. The insert refills are around $5. You can also try cross-referencing the PNs at Honda.

See receipt below for correct Honda part# (don't mind the list price, their sale prices are lower)

Stealership also installs the refills for free if you feel lazy.

How long has it been a thing to replaced the rubber part on the blade vs replacing the entire wiper blade assembly? This makes so much more sense and less waste.

since they invented wiper blades...

Funny enough, Toyota seems to have stopped stocking just the refills (at least for my 4Runner), so now they expect you to replace the whole assembly.

I've noticed that the wipers themselves, especially the all composite one on the TSX, tend to get beat up by the sun and start to get chalky. Eventually, it'll be worth it to replace the whole thing, but every time? Nah, that doesn't make sense.

also most NOT all refills are pretty universal in size, so you can buy 3ft-20ft refill and just cut to length.

The Toyota and Honda application specific blade cartridges I've replaced all have a locking indent feature on one side. Presumably, that keeps them from flying out when you turn your wipers onto ludicrous speed.

I've considered buying a yuge roll of generic wiper cartridge just for the reason mentioned, and they're probably held in tight enough already that the locking detent isn't *really* necessary, but I'm chicken.

That and I'm afraid Ceb would tell me I void a warranty by using the featureless blade refills.

Isolated incident, but the refill was great for maybe a month or so for me, before streaks started happening again. I'm guessing the metal had bent a tad, so I'm going to get new blades altogether next time around. Maybe I bent it a tad when swapping to the refill :(. Try to be mindful of that when doing this.

I'm looking for refills as well and have some questions:
As above, the OEM sizes are 600mm (driver) and 550 mm (passenger) which translate to (roughly) 23.6 inch and 21.6 inches.
When looking online, the sizes for TSX are always listed at 24 inch and 22 inch, which is of course longer than the 600/550 mm. I am wondering if these will these still fit, or are they just rounding up for simplicity...???

BTW, the best inserts I've ever purchased (Toyota Camry) are PIAA Silicone. Quiet, smooth, and last (I'm going on 5 years now).

Given that wiper blades are cheap and help you see through the windshield, it makes sense to swap them often. My personal favorites are the Bosch ICON blades.

I usually grump about needing to replace my blades but tend to do so only every couple years... Not sure why I find it so irritating, it's probably the cheapest and least strenuous thing that can be done and which has an immediate payoff.

I'd probably buy a yuge roll too, just swap them on all the cars.

Not quite. I know the Bosch ICONs are a bit longer than OE - an advantage if you ask me.

Much depends on where you live too. Temperature extremes will wear out your wipers quicker than if you live in a mild climate. Parking in a garage when not driven will increase the life as well.

If you live in a 4 season state then the rule of thumb was before the onset of cold wet weather (Oct/Nov) and again after the winter (Mar/Apr), so about $100 a year for ICONs. I garage my car during the day and at night, have Opti-Coat on my windshield and my I swap my wipers out October'ish and leave them if they are still OK the following year. I clean them every time I gas up and keep the windshield clean.

Another tip to prolong the life of your wipers in winter is to not use them until you've scraped all the ice off the windshield! You'll very likely damage the rubber which will then cause them to streak and/or miss entirely.

I ordered these exact OEM part numbers for my 2010 TSX - however the refills are a bit thicker than the current OEM ones and won't fit. The length is fine, just the girth. Did they change the part #s on the 2010 TSX? I'm completely perplexed....

Is it that significant? Fresh inserts are always a bit of a squeeze to install. I replaced mine this spring with those part numbers and they fit like usual.

Same experience and I have also had the metal clips fall out a bit and it was such a pain; I have since gotten rid of the OEM blades.

OP, one thing to consider is that some of the aftermarket ones are lighter, have a better design and last longer so there's some advantages to just going to an Advanced Auto Parts or somewhere similar and picking up something else.
