Will Lamin-X melt on fog light lense?

I have to replace a fog light - cracked lense. To avoid this in the future, I though I'd Lamin-X the fog light lenses. But, I remember reading about how the fog light will melt Lamin-X on our fog lights. Can anyone say one way or the other whether Lamin-X will hold up on our fog lights? Thanks.

My passenger side one melted, so i switched to LEDs and replaced the laminx with new ones

apparently 2011+ ones don't get as hot.

LaminX works for sure though... 10k highway miles and not a single crack.

Yeah if you have 09-10, they might melt.

I've had mine for for more than two years, no melting / browning so far

musty hustla 03-14-2015 12:01 PM

no problems here either

Mines didn't melt but had burns in the center after 3-4 months of use. As soon as I took them off, I had a cracked lens a month later!! This will be my third fog light on my RH side. Better to have it then nothing.

That kind of sucks, did Lamin-X replace any of yours or did you have to re purchase?

Thanks guys. I have a 2011 wagon. We have one 2012 with no problems. Not sure what year Fred has. Fred, where did you buy your replacement lights. I need a right/passenger side. Any more comments from 2011 - 2014 people?

I have a '13, almost 1 yr. with the overlays and no problems.

Mine are brown. Not much use.

Considering that fog lights are intended to be used in heavy fog only, proper use will not melt the Lamin-X.

Mine haven't melted on my 2011. They've been on there for over a year through the Texas summer.

@jGuts89 - Well, my cousin bought the yellow Lamin-X for his RSX and he had extra for me so I didn't purchase. I should of bought new ones to replace the old and I would of avoided the cracked lens. smh...but I'm going to buy the clear ones soon though.

@notalk - I have a 2010 and I bought the RH (Passenger Side) light off of eBay. It's the Depot brand which is much cheaper than OEM. It's a direct fit on the install and install was a breeze. I bought it for $69 something shipped vs OEM somewhere in the $100+. Can't believe this will be my third fog lamp on the same side. Lol

Sigh....

OK - let me explain this again in simple terms.

The brain/eye is drawn to the brightest light. That's why you look at oncoming lights and are dazzled by light reflections on wet roadways.

The purpose of fog lights is to illuminate the area directly in front of and to the side of your car - giving you visibility of upcoming hazards when driving slowly in pea soup.

There is a dark area directly in front of your car when your headlights are on. That is to draw your attention farther down the road.

Turning on your fogs in good visibility draws your eyes towards the front of the car, effectively ruining your ability to see into the distance.

Fog lights are not intended for other for others to look at and say "wow, that guy has fog lights on his car" but are intended to increase your ability to see and avoid hazards in very poor weather conditions.

xtcnrice 03-19-2015 09:12 AM

I have OEM lights. Fogs; low beam; high beam, everything.

I did a little test where I was driving down my street at night in foggy conditions without the fog lights on, and then I would turn the fog lights on, and kept alternating every few seconds. In my most honest opinion, I could hardly tell the difference in being able to "see more" with the fogs on.

Of course this wasn't a very controlled test; not even remotely close to scientific. But ever since that day I just left my fogs on and never touched that part of my light stalk ever again lol :tomato:

True Fog Lights where intended for foul weather. They have a shorter, lower but wider beam pattern. Herein Texas, I use them in the rural county roads to illuminate the sides better.
