Which Wax do you use and why?

I tried that I've stuff. It steaks too much on dark cars for me.
I've used it to to clean the plastic trim. That's about it.
You'll notice a world of difference once you start using higher end products.
They cost a little more but well worth it in the end.

Yes Bobby, I realize I'm not using the elite waxes and finishes but I just needed to get something on the car quick prior to the Minnesota winter onslaught. I read a little more about waxes and learned ICE is more of a polish/sealant so I ran out and got some Meguiars Ultimate wax and top coated. It's nice and is really slick. I'm interested in Zaino - is it permanent so that it cannot be removed? It's a sealant right? ... So you still need a good wax on top for optimal result? - Thx
#43
nothing is permanant.
i think zaino is just a sealant.
itll protect nicely but you wont get the gloss of a wax.
place a order for some optimum no rinse wash.
you can wash your car in your garage with 2 buckets of warm water if its cold.
clay the entire car.
if you have scratches or swirls, polish.
then use a sealant to add a layer of protectant.
let it cure overnight or however long it says.
give it a quick wash again or spray wash.
add a layer or 2 of carnuba wax.
get the best of both worlds.
thats how i did my winter prep.
now all i need to do all winter is use a detail spray or hell, maybe just hose down the car if it gets dirty.
its expensive and time consuming but its worth it in the long run.
my paint looks better than it did when i bought it.

do you mean polish?
or are you asking about something like dr.colorchip?
the polish standard seems to be M105/205 combo
ive only tried the poorboys SSR series and prima swirl and have had good results.
i need to pick up some m105/205 and see if i can find a weekend job to test it on.

Either way, it DEFINITELY made my blue pearl more obvious and looked awesome...but within a few days I started noticing that in the sun it kinda built up this haze on the car which stifled the shine. Then, when I tried to add a polymer over it, it was nothing but streaks. I'm used to being able to layer without issue. Lucky Amazon takes returns...got my $40 back.
#48
thats sad to hear. i really wanted to try that stuff.
ive heard really good things about the black light polish/seal + Purple haze. i may just stick to that and Prima Epic for my wifes Silver Car.
i might be getting a suburban to detail soon. thatll probably use up all my purple haze.
thank god ill be getting paid for it.

No kidding...
actually, much disappointment, I just saw my car in the sun and realize I created some SERIOUS hologramming from that white pad/rotary/M205 last time. Fk...sometimes that rotary does more harm than good.
I may end up selling it to someone that knows how to use it.

heheh i remember when i first bought my rotary.
i had zero idea what i was doing and the wool one seemed to be smoother so i did my entire car with a wool bonnet..
that was a horrible idea.
swirls EVERYWHERE.
i only bust out the rotary when i need to get rid of something serious.

Here is a shot of my results of TurtleWax ICE with Meguiars Ultimate paste topcoat. It's slick and I'm happy with it for today, but I'm looking for a more advanced combo of finishes/process in a few months. I don't have a power buffer but I want the best combination of gloss and durability. I enjoy detailing my car to 'perfection' but I'm probably not as much a fanatic like some folks in the detailing world of car care. Advice welcome.

what kind of polisher are you using?
if youre doing it by hand, dont waste your time.
it might get some very minor surface issues off but thats about it.
get a PC or a Griots DA polisher.

My dad commutes about 850 miles a week and right now we're swamped for some cash so it's hard for me to justify spending extra money on the cars. I'm just thinking about doing this: Every week or two I'll wash the car and just give it a coat of wax and it should hold up, My Mazda3 is on the 3-4th week of wax and it is holding up quite well. Good idea?

Hey so I found one of these in my garage, watched a video on how to wax with one of these and now I'm wondering what I need. I have one like this but theres no wool thing on there just a thing that rotates. I'll upload a pic when I get home. Funny thing is I don't know whom it belongs to, my dad and brother don't know so now its mines, I got an older 2000 chrysler grand voyager to try it out on, it has scratches all over from my bike when it was brand new haha.

My favorite of late is Blackfire Wet Diamond. Lasts a decently long time and looks amazing.
For the bad talk about OptiCoat 2.0 in this thread... The stuff works. It's been proven again and again. Folks over at Autopia have done long-term tests. I've got it on my dad's 2002 TL-S ... 18 months or so and still holding strong. He doesn't care for his car like I do mine, but this stuff lasts. Did the wheels on the Fit a year ago and just wipe them clean, even after months of neglect.
I plan on trying the 22PLE Pro on the brand new Crystal Black Pearl TSX Tech Wagon. It's supposed to be 18-24 months longevity, but I'm looking for the deep wet gloss with the longer-term protection.
I've used it all. The Klasse twins... Decent, nothing spectacular. Zaino - lasts a decently long time and looks super plasticy glossy with multiple coats (2-4 the point of diminishing returns...not necessarily a bad look. Loved it on the Fit), Zymol Concours on my old S2000, laid on by bare hand, a week apart for each coat... Rotary, forced DA, PC, wool, foam, etc. I've detailed professionally and for myself. I detailed and photographed for AutopiaCarCare and their "Perfect Shine" method years ago (remember photos of a black S2000? Me. Talk about soft paint!).
If you're going to detail your car regularly and want great protection, buy what looks great and worry less about longevity. Klasse looks decent, Zaino looks super-reflective. Top it with a quality carnauba and add some wet depth. P21S is super easy to use and remove and you can do an entire TSX in 10-15 minutes after washing.
Use the two or three bucket wash method. Add some Optimum No Rinse to soften hard water or just use ONR exclusively. Works fine on our dark purple Fit with minimum, if any, marring with months between washes, outside 24/7.
So yeah, there are my basic recommendations.

That thing is worse than useless. Throw it away. It's not good for anything.
Do you want to polish out marring? Get a Porter Cable 7424XP or Griots makes one that's often on sale on Amazon. Read up at autopia.org or the articles on autogeek.net

Whats marring? New to this
#66
No worries. Marring is light scratches or spider webbing that is most obvious under bright sunlight, in car headlights, or under those high-output parking lot lights. Probably harder to identify on your BPW.
Here's an example (marring on the left, polished to perfection on the right):

Honestly, I'd start with a good, proper claying. Then a decent wax or sealant over that.

LOL, thank you fellas. I appreciate it, trust me.
Took me about an hour and a half to do the quick polish and full coat of the Wolfgang. Gotta be honest though, I'm not sure how long it lasts, but it goes on/off so easily and looks so deep and glossy that I'm looking forward to doing it again.
Most polymer waxes are ok to "stack"...so you can add another layer when you want. With Carnauba's...it gets messy/streaky as I found out recently.

Did you apply the Wolfgang by hand?

just ordered the wolfgang swirl remover, finishing glaze and 3.0 sealant. Excited to see my black car come to life. I bought the car used and the previous owner didn't take care of the exterior as well as the interior. The interior was perfect.

Forgot to mention his car is a 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV, its Black and he's already seeing scratches on it, its about 6 months old with 11K on it.

doesnt matter how good the sealant/wax/glaze is if your finish isnt good.
the prep work makes the shine.
get a DA + some pads and polish.
a good polish can give you a amazing shine even with the cheapest wax or sealant
if youre hell bent on just buying a sealant though, ive heard great things about auto finesse tripple or whatever.
its supposedly a polish and sealant in one. theres a review thread in the wax and wash section. ive been wanting to try it out.

DA = Dual Action polisher
here is my standard.
Wash
Porter Cable 7424XP Dual Action Polisher
6in Backing Plate
6in Nanoskin Autoscrub (medium grade) instead of a Clay bar.
This thing is AMAZING.
it does what the clay bar does but a whole hell of a lot better and a LOT faster when used with my Porter Cable. be sure to break it in on the glass and use a lot of lube.
Lake Co Yellow Heavy cut pad (for marring and moderate scratches/swirls)
i use that with Poorboys SSR 3 Compound.
Then i follow up with
Lacke Co Orange or Cyan Pad. med/light cut pads. (gets rid of light swirls, scratches, marring from heavy cutting)
I either use Poor Boys SSR 2 (med cut compound)
or SSR 1 or Prima Swirl (Very light compound)
this leaves me with a very smooth finish.
Apply Sealant with a Lake Co. Black Finishing pad.
wipe sealant off.
Poorboys SSR Polishes are pretty cheap and extremely easy to work with.
they dont dry up fast like the M105/205
Sealant i use Prima Epic. its a very good sealant for its price.
leaves a pretty nice glossy finish and lasts a few months.
I follow that up with some do do juice purple haze wax to get a deep wet shine.
this stuff is a bit pricy but so worth it. just buy the little one and try it out.
goes on easy, comes off easy and it smells like grape kool aid.
all this, youre looking at around $250-$300 but youll get a flawless finish and you can keep it up.
paying a detailer to do this work would run you more than that.
id also suggest getting a variety of Microfiber towels
