V-LED Reverse Lights
V-LED Reverse Lights
Hey guys,
As the title states I got a pair of 6K (20 LED) reverse lights from the guys over at V-LEDS.com. They were about $47 shipped. Installation took all of 5 minutes. Basically pull the clips out of the trunk liner, unscrew the middle clip, pull down the liner enough to expose the reverse housings. Turn the bulbs to unhook, swap the bulbs with the new LEDs and hook back in to the housing. Finally put back the clips for the lining and close the trunk.
Once it was all set I threw the Emergency brake on, put the TSX into reverse and quickly shot this photo:

For those interested in picking up a set, here is the direct link:

Thanks,
Matt

That is insanely bright. I was thinking about putting a pair of polargs into my reverse but I don't know how bright they'll be. On the same note, when you use the back up camera...which lights does it use to see the back? The reverse or the license plate lights?
@Killer - I haven't done that but if I remember i'll swap it out tonight and shoot a photo.
I think the "brightness" is partially due to the camera I used, but it was brighter than stock for sure. The reverse and license plate lights help the back-up camera. Though i'm sure at some point you could actually "blind" the camera with too much light.. haha.

For those interested here is the comparison.

Oh, btw. the bulbs are white but the camera makes them bluish.
Point? None really, I just dislike yellow light, no matter where it is. 5 minute mod, makes me happy.. good enough for me. To each their own though.

Would these ebay lights fit? They don't give the measurements but they look around the same size as the vled ones.

Installation was seriously 5 minutes.
Step 1: Use a small screwdriver, or nail file to pop off the 3 clips and unscrew the 4th plastic screw/clip combo in the center of the trunk.
Step 2: Pop the liner over the inner trunk handle
Step 3: Turn the reverse light assembly until it unclicks
Step 4: Pop the bulb out, put in the LED one.
Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other light.
Step 6: Start the car, pull up the emergency brake and put the car into Reverse (R) *
Step 7: Confirm both lights illuminate.
Step 8: Put the liner back, pull apart the clips, place the circular part into the trunk/liner, squeeze the tip of the "pin" part of the clip and push it back in.
Step 9: Screw in the plastic screw/clip in the center.
Step 10: Close the trunk.
* Ensure the car doesn't move, the transmission likes to "auto backup" or just have someone else sit in the car and perform this action with their foot on the brake.
Hope that helps.
I can shoot some photos if you'd like though black/black is hard to light
Thanks,
Matt

If you bought the bulbs from ebay on the same link you just posted. Please give feedback on the quality of them once you get them installed! And always pictures are nice heh
Yup will do. They're already shipped so I should have them by this week. I believe that seller ships pretty fast. Once I get them installed I'll take some pics. Oh and thanks for the write up Matt, turns out you can just take off far right and left clips on the upper trunk liner to get to the lights.
I'll be interested to read a review of them as well.
I actually figured you could pull the liner down with only the left/right clips but didn't want to stretch the liner or bend it much. Just being safe with my new car.

Here's the pics from my install of the reverse LEDs I bought from eBay. They're grrrrrrr-eat! (tony the tiger). Install was super easy, just remember which position the bulbs were in so when you put them back in, its easier instead of fiddling in there turning the bulb to see when it clicks in.
Stock vs LED

Full reverse LED

Here's the eBay seller if anyone wants to buy these. Super cheap...only 5.59 shipped for 2 bulbs.

There's actually a couple sellers who have the same pricing. Probably the same people under different names.
Enjoy! Thanks to MKeefe for doing this first and making me want it!

alright...quick Q.
Is it possible these are actually putting out less light because they are led in non-led housing and they only LOOK brighter when viewed head on, but are actually outputting LESS total light?
or are they DEFINITELY more luminous. like how far does the light throw?

Oh I didn't know that...I'll try that then thanks. I also ordered a 2nd set for the brake lights. I tried it in the day time in my garage and they are considerably weaker than the stock 1's(I went back to stock bulbs)....I havn't tried it at night yet tho.
my friend installed v-leds on his lexus rx. it seems bright to the eye but it actually sheds less light on the road compare to oem. so he replaced it back with oem bulbs. he was looking for bright bulbs due to dark rear tints.
Hmm good question. I don't know how they look in daytime. Never looked in the back while reversing...but my friend spotted me reversing into a parking spot. He saw the lights and instantly knew it was me. I do want to see how the lights look in daytime now though...got me intrigued...
