Type-S Skirt install

I can't figure out the best way to install the Type-S skirts. They didn't include a template or install instructions either. I'm thinking the Type-S model comes with holes pre drilled at the factory and that I'm going to have to drill holes below the doors (I think this is called the rocker panel?). See below for pics.

Any suggestions the best way to do this myself or should I take it to the professionals?

Possible Bad News

Looks like the panels are different part numbers for the Type-S (Red) and the rest of the EX (Blue):

1 PFKL215760 PANEL, R. SIDE SILL
1 PFKL215761 PANEL, R. SIDE SILL

2 PFKL216151 PANEL SET, R. FR. OUTSIDE
2 PFKL216152 PANEL SET, R. FR. OUTSIDE

3 PFKL216517 PANEL SET, R. RR. OUTSIDE
3 PFKL216518 PANEL SET, R. RR. OUTSIDE

4 PFKL216788 PANEL, L. SIDE SILL
4 PFKL216789 PANEL, L. SIDE SILL

5 PFKL217256 PANEL SET, L. FR. OUTSIDE
5 PFKL217257 PANEL SET, L. FR. OUTSIDE

6 PFKL217670 PANEL SET, L. RR. OUTSIDE
6 PFKL217671 PANEL SET, L. RR. OUTSIDE

Looks like I'll be getting the Modulo style kit from Acura. I like the Type-S body kit better, looks cleaner (had the Type-S/Euro-R kit for my 2004 TSX). Hopefully you can find a way to install them without cutting off all of those clips. Let me know how it goes!

Where did you buy your Type-S kit? How much did it cost you? Can't wait to see the pics. :-)

fredster730, there was a groupbuy set up a few weeks back, I've not heard from other purchasers so I'm not sure how many there actually were. I imported through Canada which I don't recommend if you live in the US like I do as you have to pay duty with customs.

------------------------------------

Summary of what we've learned:
Rocker panel part number varies on Type-S models to the model used for North American trim-lines. (Thanks Kryptech)

The Type-S skirts require holes for the included clips to be installed in. I found a video clip on youtube of someone drilling these holes on a Civic for a kit that installs in a similar method. LINK. I asked the person who posted the video how they determined where to put the holes without a template. The response was wet touchup paint applied to the clips and they left a mark on the rocker panel which was then drilled and bored to size (580-585 thousandths in their case)
(Thanks Danielgoncalves69)

I'll have to purchase a vernier caliper before I undertake this, but that seems about like what our kit requires.

Method #1, mark holes with paint, drill as above.

Method #2, a member on another message board for either Subaru or Mitsu used double sided tape on the clips, lining up the clips, pressing on the skirt leaving the double sided tape on the car in position to be drilled as above.

Method #3, remove all clips and plugs and use double-sided tape of an industrial grade to attach the skirts. (Plus self-tapping screws on the aft end of the vehicle in the wheel well) Skirt removal would be easiest this way.

Method #4, remove all clips and plugs and use a Urethane Adhesive as is used in the installation of windshields to hold the skirts. This should be waterproof and fairly strong (Plus self-tapping screws on the aft end of the vehicle in the wheel well) This is most likely permanent but would probably need to be sanded off if the skirts were ever removed.

There are holes for the bumper clips to attach on the floorpan, they are easy enough to see even though on my car they are filled over with an undercoating. All parts numbers needed for installation at the top of the thread.

I'll be busy with work the next couple weeks so I'm not sure how quickly I'll get these on, but I'll update the thread at that time. I'm probably going to use Method #1 with some double-sided tape to assist in places where there are not clips. Haven't resolved how to handle clips 21, 22, and 23 at this time. My mind is on rust proofing as well...

method number 1 is pretty genius. But it would still make my butt tighten up with nervousness! i would consider chopping the clips off and attaching it with a buttload of 3m molding tape (method 3).

I have an Euro TypeS with this sideskirts. Took them of for cleaning and making my carbonflaps. I can tell you that the wholes are not round, they are square. If someone in the forum near by you has a car with Original holes make your own templates, take the skirts off and make a template of paper which dont tears easy, tape it on your car and mark it. That would be my first try.

Nobody in North America will have the holes to my knowledge. Any chance you took pictures with the skirt off? The plugs are round inside the car and they have a square plastic shape once installed. Maybe that is what you are seeing? See pictures above for the plug. Thanks for the information also!

Possible help

Sorry, no way to know the exact placement of the square holes unless someone in Europe/Japan takes measurements or makes a template...

But, the size of the holes maybe similar to the 2004-2008 TSX, since this was the standard method of installing side skirts for both the TSX and Type-S/Euro-R.

http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/AI/BII24814.pdf

Now, I never took pictures of my kit being installed, but I did find a thread with some low res pics and instructions. Perhaps it could be adapted for your installation once you mark the hole locations:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...+skirt+install

You might even be able to get someone with a 2004-2008 to take their skirt off and you can take one of your clips out to see if they fit. That would give you the exact size of the square holes you need to make. It's worth a shot I guess.

Someone should say yes...

Ask someone who has a 1st Gen TSX to take off their Side Sill as the part number for those clips (part #22) on your Type-S Side Sill are the same as theirs. Either have them send you exact measurements and pictures or if they are close, maybe you can meet up and do it in person. As for part #21 and #23, they look to already be on your Side Sills. You'll have to eyeball that one since there doesn't appear to be a similar part on the 1st Gen.

2nd Gen:

22 PFKL1012213 CLIP, SIDE SILL UPPER GARNISH

1st Gen:
