tpms sensor question - new winter tires and wheels
I am planning on ordering some winter tires, steel wheels, and tire pressure monitoring sensors from The Tirerack. Everything will be mounted and balanced, and shipped to me.
Their website indicates during the ordering process that "once installed, you will need to read your vehicle's owner's manual to review the proper procedures for allowing your vehicle to 'recognize' the new sensors".
My question:
Can I do the necessary procedure myself to get the new sensors to work properly? Or will I need a mechanic at the dealer do it? (I have yet to receive my new TSX, so don'y have access to the owner's manual yet).
Thanks

there is no procedure.
I bought a set of new TPMS sensors on ebay for $100 shipped.
I installed them in my new rims, they just screw in, they're the valve stems.
then the tires were mounted and balanced, then the rims installed.
the car picked up the new sensors immediately. nothing was done or adjusted
or anything, the car recognized them on it's own.

From what I understand the 09 maybe different then the earlier honda/acuras. I tried to get aftermarket sensors for my 09 and was told there are no aftermarket sensors for the 09's. I'm pretty sure they have to be programmed by the dealer as well. I got a set snows mounted on OE steel wheels. I have installed them on the car yet.

^ this maybe.
the ones I got for my 08 where OEM ones.
I've never heard of anyone doing aftermarket.
I would suggest OEM or nothing, I wouldn't run aftermarket TPMS sensors.

i got my xtra sets of TPMS thru ebay...no need to program them.
i just had them installed with the new rims and in less then a min my car recognize it.
i'll be using my stock wheels as "winter wheels"

I hope that is the case. Would save a trip to the dealer twice a year

If you can find out where Acura buys the TPMS sensor from, then you can get the same thing from the OE manufacturer. Acura does not make their own TPMS sensor.

Three Wheelin'
Tirerack and other shops usually say you need to go to the dealer to get the TPMS sensors "re-programmed" - this is not true.
On both our TSX and MDX I have new sensors and neither time did I need to re-program. The receiver simply looks for a sensor in your wheel, if it's there, you're good to go. The receiver and sensor are not linked to each other, otherwise a simple tire rotation would mean you'd have to remove the tires each time, which is not the case.
So when you get your new winter wheels, just mount and enjoy

Well I spoke too soon. The service TPMS came on last night after driving about 50kms. I thought something was wrong, because as I monitored the tire pressures on the dash display, they did not change in value as I drove. So as I was told and posted on here, the 09s are different then the 08s and earlier. The dealer will have to relearn my TPMS.
