Angry The things people do...

Started out as a normal Saturday morning (minus me being sick). Fiance went out to her car (2007 TSX) in the parking garage to leave and found her driver's side front tire flat. Ok, no big deal...just take my car (the 2010 TSX), I will go out and look at it later.

Come out to find a wheel that has been rashed to hell, a lug nut missing, and a tire that is not part of the new matching set we just bought about 6 months ago. WTF?!?! You mean to tell me someone stole my wheel/tire and went through the trouble of putting another matching 2007 TSX wheel/flat tire on?!? The tire that was put on is actually one of the OEM tires.

Call my fiance and tell her what I found. Call the police to report the incident. They come out and write up the report all the while I am telling them my theories and they just cant believe that someone would actually go through the trouble of replacing it. And also, why the driver's side front? It was dirty and you could see finger/glove prints. So next, the crime scene detectives come out and take finger prints. Hoping they got some good ones and maybe through a miracle it will bring a match.

Go out this morning (Sunday) to put the spare on. Well, take the piece of crap wheel/tire off and find the inside of the rim bent and cracked. Great. Need a new tire and a new rim and WHEEL LOCKS!

All this happened behind a secure gated parking garage on the third floor. I am reviewing the security tapes tomorrow to see if there is anything suspicious. There is only one located at the entrance of the garage. I am also going to ask around if anyone saw someone changing a tire Friday night in the garage as that is when the theft occurred.

The things people do...I just dont get it.

That is bizarre as hell. In these times, people get desperate I guess. Where do you live?

Yup. No windows broken and not a scratch anywhere on the car. I live very close to downtown Dallas.

Shouldn't be to hard to track down the car with the same lug pattern, wheel, and the matching tire.

Sorry to hear about this. Sounds like you have it all under control. Maybe an opportunity to get new aftermarket wheels????

I am hopeful we will find a suspicious vehicle entering/exiting the parking garage. I am also hopeful since this is so stupid to begin with that the thieves were not wearing gloves.

I will be keeping a look out on the other couple TSX vehicles located in the garage to see if my tire/wheel found its new home.

Other than that, I have no idea how we would ever find the suspect. I was wondering if maybe there was a serial number on the tire they left that I could call Continental and have them find the original seller. But, I am not sure how much help that would be because there are chalk marks of the tire sizing on the tread...so clearly looks like this tire came from a used tire dealer.

Wont be getting aftermarket wheels...the fiance would not go for that

Great story man. I always wondered why that doesn't happen more often. Good luck tracking him or her down. Has your woman's car been serviced lately?

Did you have wheel locks prior to this incident?

For the record, I was in South Carolina last night.

That sure is screwed up. When I go back to the dealer for my first oil change, I am getting wheels locks that were on the invoice.

Does you insurance cover that?

I have etched my drivers license number on the rims. Don't etch your SSN, as most police are not allowed to track by SSN, but they can look up any DL number.

Not sure if it will do any good, but that plus wheel locks is about as much insurance as reasonable for stock wheels (for me at least).

Did the parking garage have security cameras?

Yes, the car was serviced by the Acura dealer about a month ago - an oil change. They are aware of the situation and we are dropping it off tomorrow morning. No wheel locks prior to the incident. They will be purchased tomorrow though. I have them on mine just because I bought it new with them thrown in. I think in most situations they probably dont help, as if thieves really wanted the wheels, they could get them off. However, in this situation, I think it would have deterred them. Would have taken too much effort and brought too much attention.

The garage does have a security camera at the entrance. I will be reviewing the tape tomorrow.

Also, insurance will be notified and a claim will be filed as I am 99% sure a new wheel/tire plus labor is going to be more than the deductible.

Dang.....thats crazy. I had something similar happen to my neighbors house on a Chevy Tahoe..The owners old wheels were cut, so she bought new ones. The next week, she woke up to her car on some wooden blocks..without the rims and the new tires she put on.

But honestly, the wheel locks will not stop a theif. I work at a shop, and whenever there is a wheel lock and the owner doesnt have the socket for it, you just get another socket that is the same size, and bang it on with a hammer.. And it comes off. Its super easy. But yes, it will take longer, and might attract more attention. I hope you get everything figured out. Good luck.

How can you be sure it happened in the garage? Sounds to me like the wheel may have been changed out somewhere else, perhaps the last time she used the car?

from the damage on the rim, its unlikely that she would have been able to drive far without the low tire pressure light being triggered or the tire already being flat

Wow... so you need to find a 2007 TSX with 3 OEM tires and one of your new tires on it.

I don't know how a person gets the balls to do that. With my luck you would have come out for your car while I had it jacked up and you would have kicked the shit out of me. It's too bad that didn't happen.

Honestly, a tire thief. Hopefully they have an AWD and the heavy new tire destroys their differential. KARMA!!!!

Several reasons. There was chalk on the tread that would have not been there had it been driven on. Will find out tomorrow for sure, but judging by the bend and crack on the backside of the rim, it doesnt look like the tire can hold air. Therefore, it has been flat and the last time she drove it she did not have a flat. Plus, the low tire light was not on the last time she drove it either.

Ha, I know...fat chance in finding the thief by looking at tires. However, I get a sinking feeling every time I have driven by an 07 TSX ever since yesterday morning.

Yup, Karma is a bitch...

Besides putting a broken wheel with a flat tire on, they leave the TPMS in the old wheel? I hate thieves, but dumb ones especially.

That sounds pretty crappy. If he wanted it that bad it would have been easier to just steal it and go on. I will never understand people.

Sorry to hear this. There is a seller on eBay that has eight 2007 wheels for $120 each. Insurance deductible is probably higher. You might be better off just eating the cost. Chances of finding her wheel is slim. And if they do it might be evidence.

Good luck.

So a separate crime scene detective came out and took prints on a suspect rim that was supposedly traded/stolen? Pretty amazing. They didn't take prints after my car was stolen and found.

That is correct. I got some weird looks of people driving by who saw the chevy impala with 'crime scene' written on the side.
