Tech Package Question

I know I'm being anal here, but I can't decide if i like the dolby-prologic on or off and its driving me insane. I was wondering what your thoughts are. Has anyone played around with the tuning of the stereo much? I mostly listen to music from my iPod. So far, I think that I like the sound better with Dolby Off, treble down a bit, and woofer up a bit.

If anyone has some good stereo settings, that would be nice. I've messed with it too, but haven't find the right ranges for all the settings yet.

I have mine set with the surround off. The only time i had the surround sound on is when i was testing the Acura DVD-A when i bought the car. For some reason the sound is more "Full" with the surround off when playing XM.

I totally agree IL45...I thought that maybe my ears just weren't used to surround sound, but with it off, I feel like the music is all around me. With it on, I think there is too much coming out of the front center speaker...it makes the treble sound too high and the voices weak.

Synthetic surround typically works by playing some fo the music out of phase. This will tend to make the sound 'wider' at the expense of bass response.

Anyone know if the sound system in the tech package allows you to play at a lot higher volumes (compared to the stock system) or does it just improve the quality of the sound. I want a system that plays loud with good bass response.

The tech package has 415 watts vs. 350. The difference in volume is inaudible. Psychoacoustics require a minimum of 3db for humans to hear a difference. This means the Speaker A playing at 85 db will sound exactly the same to the human ear as Speaker B playing at 87 db.

Unfortunately to effect a 3 db change in sound pressure level, you will need to double the wattage.

Having said that, the sound quality of the tech package is much better than the standard model, but its not louder. You will need to go aftermarket if you want to make your ears bleed.

I turned the Dolby ProLogic II off and the sound is much better than when it's on. I listen mainly to my iPod and XM.

Just curious, is the Dolby PL II Movie mode or Music? My Yamaha home receiver(s) have both, and I prefer the Music mode over Movie, even for movies. (Difference: In Music mode, it doesn't remove center-directed signals so that there's a wider and more natural soundstage.)

My amps also let you adjust the width of the center channel. I don't see anything in the '09 OM about this, only the volume of the center channel. Based on that, I don't think I'd use it unless for Dolby Surround encoded material.
