State Tint Law Summary Table

If anyone needs it, even though I know it isn't TSX or CU2 specific.

I just came across this document online and thought it might be helpful for some, so I'm not responsible for the information or how you use it. And don't ask me what the codes and abbreviations are either, there is some explanation at the bottom in the footnotes though.

Thanks for this, I'm sure it'll help a lot of people who are about to get tint. I could have sworn texas was at 35%, but after checking multiple sites I guess its now 25%. Oh well the 35% I have on is plenty dark for me.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the level of accuracy is unfortunately, just that it was a nice summary of requirements across states. It does have year of enactment, so if there's an update, it should be pretty easy to find via Google.

Remember that with the exception of a few states, the LT is "NET" meaning that you need to consider the factory "tint" into your calculations. For example, our windows appear to be at about 85-87% from the factory. That comes from the process of making automotive glazing and from the UV rejection built into the glass.

Accordingly, to reach the 35% most commonly legal on rear side windows, you'd need to use about a 41- 45% film.

Those of you with 35% are at about 30% and those with 20% are really at about 17%. The actual tinting process may also reduce VLT by a percent or two so you may actually have less LT.

That doesn't take optical distortion into consideration.

Here is another chart but the info seems similar. Your tint shop should have the latest laws AND a tint light meter to measure both the existing LT from the factory and the end LT after the tinting is done. If it is supposed to be legal then you'll want to keep a copy of that with your registration.

It does appear that TX has changed the laws.
