Someone scratched up my rear bumper :(

I've had the car for about 2 weeks and was forced to use street parking last night... sure enough whatever a-hole was behind me must have mashed into my car and scratched the bumper clear through the paint

What do you think - go to the dealer or a body shop and get it fixed professionally, or get a small thing of touchup paint and do it myself?

Is it something that can be buffed out, or is it really deep? Touchup paint almost always looks like crap, so I don't know if I'd use that option. I guess it depends on how much a shop would charge. I know it sucks to have a new car get banged up, but if you are going to park on the street fairly often, it may not be worth it to get it fixed professionally, because chances are it'll happen again.

i was in the same type of situation, sort of. about 1 min after my dad drove the car off the lot, he drove over a bump too fast, and caused a dent on the front bumper. the paint was all scraped off. so we called the acura dealer, and they suggested a body shop. apparently, the dent couldn't be fixed, so i would need a new front bumper. so my options were to leave the dent and touch up the paint, or get a new bumper. but because I'm 100% sure this is gonna happen again sometime in the future, i went with just getting the paint touched up. the touch paint didn't look that great, but it was good enough. and the paint came off underneath the bumper, so its not that noticeable. touch up paint doesnt look that great, but if its a good deal, i would get it fixed. otherwise, i think its best to leave it.

I'm in NYC as well. Have had my car for 2 weeks. Already found a couple of small dings. It's what you have to expect in the city. I just tell myself that the battle scars give the car some character. I'm just glad I have a parking spot in my building.
