sluggish 5AT

I don't know my car is is it normal for 5AT? I alwasy feel when you accelerate slowly from stop, I felt somehere(maybe engine), but you can feel from gas pedal is vibrating, unless you step on it, otherwide car wan't move forward. I feel more obvious when you stop in uphill and try to make a move. I even can not make a move smoothly in uphill,b/c if you do not step hard, car will go backward it in uphill.

Can anybody feel the same way?

Thanks.

actually, mine is different than this thread. they are talking about at low speed. mine condition is when you start from stop. it seems like is hard to just accelerate a liitle to make car move. you have to step a bit harder otherwise you will feel a bit vibrate around pedal area.

if I am on a straight, the car moves even when I haven't my foot on any pedal. (in D mode of course). When you on the hill, of course you have to push the pedal more or you get some rumble. For me it is the same as the other thread - you did not tell us what engine do you have, but I am guessing 2.4 and this engine lacks of torque and have to be revved. Like any other Honda.

yep. Rumble like if you did not step hard. My car is 2.4. but 172 torque isn't enough? it alreday more than my 98 camry 2.2 liter. my camry want feel like this, even it is 12 years old.
also 172 torque also more than a first gen of tsx. It is unbelievable.

Yes, that's it, it is normal. 172 is not much, and even the TSX is not a heavy car, it is not a lightweight car either. The next thing is the power&torque curve, it is not only about the "number 172", but in which revs the car has it. It has for example 200 HP in 7000 rpm, 200 HP sounds cool, but the time to get there is very long.

Also, the 5-speed is a bit improved from the previous model, and the same is with the engine.

My think-so is, that it is also caused by the obsession about the fuel consumption. But anyway, it is normal... It is many more things what to don't like on this car

Mine is sluggish, too!

I feel your pain, bro! My TSX starts very slowly at times. What is more frustrating is when you are going slowly and you give it gas, NOTHING happens for a second or two and then it kicks in and moves out. I have driven a couple of other TSXs and have experienced this same thing.

Most Honda's or Acura's are like this, except for the RDX. They're all high-end torque machine's.

If you're accelerating moderately from a stop, the transmission tries to get into second and then third gear as quickly as possible (to make use of all that torque and save fuel). If, for example, you get to 25 miles per hour with a very light throttle, it's very possible the car is already in third gear. If you then stomp on the gas, the transmission needs to shift all the way down to first. This will take a split second and is probably the "sluggishness" you feel.
