I have searched and have not had any success finding the answers.

I am looking to install a remote starter on my 2010 TSX. I want to install the OEM one, however, I see that the dealer has to program the module. I have been unable to find the answer to this question:

Can I install this myself, drive to the dealership and have them program? What exactly are they programming? I also I'm curious what people are typically getting charged to have a this programmed if you install yourself.

I specifically want OEM since it is plug and play and the range is not critical.

I believe that the programming will be similar to the addition of new keys, where the ECU of the car must be thought to recognize the new "key" which, in this case, is likely the remote start module.

If you were to install an aftermarket one (I don't recommend it.... ) the "professor" that will install it will have to take your valet key and stick it inside the car in order to trick the car that the key is present.

Of course, a few months or years from then, you will have many random electrical problems that will be very difficult to figure out depending on hoe many wires were "touched" (cut/taped etc) during the installation.
