Looks Like the TSX Will NOT be Replaced by the ILX
#41
Goodbye.
haha I remember when I asked the sales guy that I wanted to keep my car's sticker label thingy and he was all surprised and asked, "really??"
The more I read about the ILX, the more disappointed I am in it. Makes the TSX look like the best value ever. I agree the ILX is more a cutesy chick's car, which is why they copied the IS because most princesses all get IS250s for their first car.

Plans to cease tyre production at Michelin’s factory in Ota, Japan were announced on January 15. Upon giving word of the July 2010 end of passenger car and light truck tyres at the Gunma Prefecture site, Michelin explained that, despite taking measures to improve productivity, reduce production costs and, since 2007, refocus on the production of ‘complex products’, production costs at the Ota plant have remained around twice as high as those of other plants serving that tyre segment.
Despite the end of tyre production in Ota, Michelin says it will “continue to develop its operations and expand its presence in Japan and the Asia Pacific region, notably through its research and development programs in Ota, its sales operations throughout the country and its activities at Nihon Michelin Tire Co Ltd. headquarters in Tokyo.”
So the 2009 is still 100%

There was also the natural disasters that hit Japan. They are probably starting to diversify their suppliers so part shortages or supplier shutdowns won't be such a production problem.
Trojan, do you have the V6? I believe the V6 is assembled in Ohio and then shipped to Japan for car assembly and then everything gets shipped back the the USA.

I think people are confused between assembled in Japan vs all of the parts being 100% Japanese.
I think all TSX from 2010 and up are 85% Japanese with final assembly in Japan. That does not mean it is 100% Japanese like what they used to be.
My 2009 is 100% made and assembled in Japan. My 2011 has 85% Japanese parts and final assembly in Japan.

AW. SO YOUNG.
Hang in there. Take it seriously though. I have seen many a colleague, medical/dental/nursing, come into college in an accelerated program and take for granted the opportunity they've received. I know the retention statistics and the sad fact is that too many students get complacent and get removed from their programs,
Take it seriously, work hard, and reap the benefits in your later years. I know it sucks when you have to keep a 3.5+ freshman year when it seems like everyone is getting crunk and having fun, but believe me, ive seen what becomes of those people, and its not pretty
Rock on bro

this is true. i do text him when i'm on my ivory throne (its the only time i think of him. cuz you know...my shit is brown, he's brown...get it?)...but planning wise was very impromptu...it was basically, "when you going" "15th" "okay see you there" lol

"Why is everyone having fun but me" syndrome can effect even those of us in "easy school"

Anyone know when the ilx is coming out? I was trying to get a tsx SE during that awkward time where they have both cars but the tsx won't sell because the ilx is so new and popular.

Unless you are intrigued by the ILX, it's not going to make much of a difference. I have seen the ILX from hybrid to 6 spd manual, and I don't think it will do much to the TSX sales. The question you have to ask yourself is this... Is that potential/possible discount/rebate worth the wait vs. getting the car now and enjoying it? If you are paying cash, the possible extra $1K you can save may be worth the 30-60 day wait. However, if you are financing, it doesn't make much of a difference over a typical 36-60 month loan. Just food for thought young Jedi...

While it is conceivable that the TSX is dropped and the ILX becomes the new entry level Acura, that does not mean that the TSX will lose its appeal to people shopping for a car in that size. I also see no reason why the TSX would drop in value. Like I said earlier, an outgoing model drops in value when it is replaced by the same car with new features i.e., the 2011 TL dropped in value when new as soon as the 2012 TLs hit the lots. The new TLs had the 6 speed auto tranny and the redesign - two good reasons that dated the 2011 instantly. The 2011 TSXs, OTOH, didn't take a substantial hit when the 2012's arrived because there was little or no difference.

Just some random thoughts about the ILX ...
Some drivers preferred the smaller 1st gen TSX over the 2nd gen TSX. Perhaps the smaller ILX will fill that need?
The ILX also needs a sportback in its line-up. Not a hatchback, but a 5 door sportback as in the Audi A5 or A7. Hatches can be hot, but sportbacks look more upscale to me.
And the TSX Wagon? Perhaps Acura can move it up to the TLX Wagon and put in a V6.

Mine was assembled in Japan as well, 2010 leftover purchased 4/11. Believe it or not, only 8 miles on the car and it was parked in the showroom. I did find out, however, that someone activated the satellite radio early because it cut off in June! The car arrived 12/10 at the dealer, so it had to be activated then.
In regard to the ILX, I saw it at the NYC auto show and I was NOT impressed. The car looks smaller than the TSX is, and the downgrade in power makes it seem like an upmarket economy car vs. the entry level sport/luxury vehicle the TSX is marketed as.

Those old stereotypes don't apply for the most part anymore, but looks like I'm not alone when I prefer a car made in Japan. They sure know about quality control and the fit and finish is very nice.
Different countries are just known to make different things. For America, it's military hardware and technology (fighter jets, ships, aircraft carriers, tanks, MRAPs) and they are just well built and more reliable than the rest of the world. For cars, one made in Japan still wins.

IMO, the TSX is sexy as hell and the ILX is the exact opposite end of the spectrum. There are so many styling issues I have with the ILX...
When you see a TSX, you know it's a TSX. When I see the ILX...meh. I'm just not impressed. I can't see the ILX replacing the TSX, and even if it does, in it's present look and configuration, I will never own one.

I would buy an American TRUCK in a second, but I owned a Chrysler in the past so no more American cars for me...

Looks like the TSX name will be going away...

From the link:
2) A recognizable naming pattern will improve model identification and awareness. Acura’s sedans will all share an “LX” suffix, while the truck lineup will have “DX,” and the NSX rounds out the family as the sporty long awaited supercar that we’re all excited for. In this way, Vicki said, each type of vehicle that Acura offers will share a unified naming convention that brings a sense of belonging. In a world full of acronyms, I agree that this consistent direction will help simplify the “alphabet soup” that we’ve become so accustomed to among luxury car manufacturers and their model names.

What about the ILX specifically? Was there any reason this name was chosen for the all-new 2013 entry level premium offering from Acura? YES. Selecting the perfect name for a car is a far more involved process than one would think and it can take months or even years to finalize. The meaning behind “I-L-X” starts with the letter “I”. This car truly is designed with the driver in mind, complete with features that buyers in my demographic are asking for: Smart features! A car as intelligent as its driver. Let’s not forget individualistic and independent. Clearly the “I” was the right choice as the prefix for this sedan.
Count me as one who likes a name, not all these stupid letters. They shoulda called it the Integra. What's wrong with that name?
Or they could have called it the WARAD, for 'we are retarded and dumb'.
