Looking to experiment with a different motor oil
12 TSX 50K Miles. I have been running Mobil-1 and a Mobil-1 filter for the past three oil changes. I've noticed some oil burning and some VTC actuator grind in the winter. Not too worried about either as it seems to be normal. Oil burning is about a quart every 5K miles, it's no surprise another Honda engine burns a bit of oil.
I recall reading in the past other members have switched up their oil and had better results, even with the VTC noise. I don't have much too loose assuming I chose a quality oil. This engine does not require any special boutique oil but I have some interest in the topic and would like to play around.
Oil Filter - Honda 15400-PLM-A01 - $10
Oil of interest:
Eneos Fully Synthetic
I'd love to find a Made in Japan oil, but they don't really seem to exist in high quality/easy availability in the states besides Eneos Sustina which is $20 a quart. I'm leaning towards the Zepro with Moly. Anyone have any comments? Yes, I know I can throw whatever is on sale at Wal-Mart in this car and be fine, just playing around a bit here.

Interesting. My Acura dealer always did DINO oil for my TSX. It is at 115K miles, and the only car in my fleet that doesn't use synthetic. 7500-8500 mile OCI currently, blackstone analysis done, so I am sticking with the cheap stuff. No oil burn between changes.
Let us know what you find.
In my other cars I run Mobil 1, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and Shell Rotella .

I switched to the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in my 4G TL and observed less oil loss than Mobil 1 Extended Performance. In fact, after 3K miles, my oil level is still exactly the same. Both oils were 0W-20 as indicated by the engine so it's not a case of thicker oil. And neither are designed for high mileage engines. No difference in engine noise, economy or power. Just less oil consumption. Not sure if it's less evaporation or just less past the rings but either way, I'll be sticking with it if it continues this way.
But yes, nearly impossible to find on sale. And I wasn't able to find it in stores anywhere. The regular Pennzoil Platinum is pretty widespread but not the Ultra Platinum.
